Cozy Room with Large Private Balcony!
A retired Chef and her husband offer a private room on the second story of their historic property. Queen bed, private French doors to large balcony, TV, WiFi, parking and fresh, hot breakfast.

Casa Pelican B&B and Cooking School welcomes our guests (or other visitors to New Orleans) to also book a cooking class with us. Check out our Cooking School listing at https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/8607025 and inquire about our class calendar.

Our home is your home when you stay with us. You'll be provided with a key to the front door and there are no curfews. Just try to be a little quiet if you're coming back very, very late (which isn't unusual in New Orleans!). One important thing to note is that we have pets (a small dog and two indoor/outdoor cats). Those with allergies should be aware of this...although none of the animals are ever allowed in our rented room.

New Orleans has so much to explore, so we don't expect our guests to hang around too much...although it has certainly been known to happen. We love to have breakfast with our guests on weekends and make sure they get whatever tourist guidance we can offer. Most of all, we want everyone who visits us to leave feeling like they can't wait to return to our wonderful city!

Algiers Point is the small, historic community (established in 1719) directly across the Mississippi river from the French Quarter. Largely residential, the architecture is classically New Orleans with Greek Revivals and Antebellums to adorable and brightly colored Shot Guns. It is extraordinarily quiet and safe, yet still boasts one of the city's best local pubs (with free, live music every night!) just 3 blocks away.

Within walking distance is the Algiers/Canal Street ferry which runs daily to and from the French Quarter. There is a $2 fare and times vary throughout the week. Check here for updated information:

We never charge extra for booking during Special Events (because we just hate it when hotels do that!), but during Mardi Gras we require a 5 day minimum stay (Friday through Ash Wednesday).

Our stay can be summed up by my steady's words the last night we were there. Scott looked at me and said "We are so spoiled..." And that is how we felt! We came to NOLA for the FQ Fest and stayed at Casa Pelican for 6 nights. "Welcoming" was the operative theme for our whole visit. Karen, Kelly, Pork, Gumbo, Minnie, the "cluck cluck" girls, and the neighbors we passed each day on our way to and from the ferry all made us feel right at home. We knew we were in a special place when we rolled in after a long drive to the smells of yummy Creole and Cajun cooking. Chef Karen had just finished a cooking class and offered us dinner from the "leftovers". Gumbo, jumbalaya, and etouffee with a glass of wine were just what the doctor ordered. A historic house with a big comfy bed and an upper balcony to sit and watch the moon and the distant lights of NO from......a delicious, creative breakfast using local goodies prepared by Chef Karen and served with a warm greeting each morning at the time we wanted it....A levee a few blocks away to walk/run/bike on while watching the muddy Mississippi.....A historic neighborhood filled with fascinating architecture and fragrant flowering plants....local unique bars and coffee shops with stories to tell..a $2 ferry ride to the Quarter where walking and trolleys get you where you want to go (We never used our car the entire time)..and the extra special gift of sunny low humidity days ending with breezy nights so cool we left our balcony doors open and slept like babies. Historic Algiers was the place to be after long music filled days in the Quarter. We also had time to visit the beautiful sculpture and botanical gardens in City Park. Great food to be had everywhere and Karen and Kelly were a wealth of knowledge and recommendations about NOLA. If you can't handle stairs....or don't like the charms of old homes(this one was built in the 1800s) or the spice of a neighborhood represented by many colors and backgrounds (We walked safely day and night.. and you use good judgement anytime anywhere in NOLA...) then you might want to stay elsewhere. But you will miss a special experience with warm, fascinating hosts. We would go back in a heartbeat and intend to do so!

Karen was a wonderful host. The house was picture perfect, nestled in a cozy street in Algiers Point. The location was great as we could take the ferry into the city for only a few bucks. Karen made delicious breakfast every morning (especially the gravy biscuits!) and gave us great pointers on making the most of our time in New Orleans. We would absolutely stay here again & plan to refer any friends we have visiting the area.

Casa Pelican was amazing. Karen and her husband met us at the door even though we arrived at midnight and then fed us gumbo. Her breakfasts were the perfect way to wake up and she was very accommodating to our uncertain morning schedule. The location is a short ferry ride to New Orleans and being away from the crowds was nice. You couldn't ask for better hosts!

Karen was a very generous and considerate host. She took great care of us and was a delight to get to know. Her cooking class was wonderful and definitely worth the time. The neighborhood was truly charming, peaceful, and full of friendly folks. There is an adorable library just across the street and a nice playground a couple of blocks away. We can't wait to come back again!

It was a beautiful historic house and area yet quiet but close enough to the ferry to get into the action. It was far enough away to be safe in the day and night. Our host was sweet, friendly and knowledgeable but didn't become intrusive or over bearing. We had our privacy respected and all questions answered and personalized and tailored based on our needs. Great deal for the money if you like bed and breakfasts

Absolutely wonderful. We were here for a quick weekend trip over st Patrick's day weekend. Karen was phenomenal, and she made the 10 drive from Florida 100% worth it alone. When we come back we fully intend on staying here again. It is a short ferry trip from the quarter, and if you need to go anywhere else uber is easy and cheap. We absolutely recommend staying here!

Karen's place is delightful. Beautifully decorated & the bed was very comfy. We also had our own wrap around balcony! The house is in a cute residential area which felt quite safe, even at night. The ferry is a 10min walk away and only $2 so it's convenient to get to the French Quarter. Karen made us a scrumptious breakfast and above all Karen was so kind in helping us sort out new accommodation and refund after the airbnb we booked 6 months ago cancelled on us on the day of check-in. I would highly recommend Karen's place.
