Before I start, I would encourage you to have a look at my other reviews - I'm not a complainer or a picky guest, and I take negative reviews very seriously. In all the years I've been on Airbnb, I've never left a negative review. But I've also never encountered a property like this. I'll try to be as to-the-point as I can: 1) There was no toilet paper. The host's answer: "we are Muslims so we dont use papers we have Muslim showers" 2) There was an undisclosed cat. Not a big deal by itself, but the bedroom door's latch was broken, so it wouldn't stay closed and the cat would just push it open repeatedly & climb all over my luggage. The host's answer: "Cats are there and guest have also mentioned in their comments section.. untill you no one has complained" 3) They did not provide a key to the apartment. I specifically asked if I'd need one before going out, was assured that they'd "leave the door unlocked, because it's a safe neighborhood." Yet several hours later I got a call saying the host would go out and lock the door, hiding a key for me when I come home. I got home & was unable to find the key, & when I tried to call for clarification, they didn't answer - leaving me locked outside for over half an hour (in the middle of the night, in >100 degree heat, desparate to sleep before my 7am flight). The host's answer: "we dont provide keys for 1 day guest.. security reasons.." (not disclosed in the listing), and "the keys were there where my father left.." (seeming to imply that it was my fault for not being able to find it - rather than theirs for not just giving me one, or for failing to answer when I called) 4) The kitchen was filthy beyond description. There were literally chunks of old meat splattered all over the floor, to the point that it would get stuck to your feet during a simple tiptoe to the water cooler. The host's first response: "all these problem occurred to you because from past 6 months we are not living in that house .. which is why the house was not clean and you find thing incomplete" (yet for some reason they still rented it out at full price). Later, when I requested a refund for my stay, he changed his response to "kitchen was not for you only room and that washroom.. but you still went there your problem.. you were not allowed in that area.." (That's odd, because I'd been explicitly shown the kitchen as the place where I should go for drinking water) 5) There were large cockroaches in the bathroom. Response: "100s of guest has lived in that place you are the first one whos expectations was for vip Hotel sorry that what every one gets for 29 $" 6) The address listed on Airbnb wasn't correct....
I stayed at Jawad's place for just one night. Taxi driver dropped me off at a wrong address and Jawad was kind enough to pick me up. The room is spacious. He's got a few cats which was not a problem for me. There was an issue with water but Jawad was able to fix it. He and his brother were nice. If you are open minded and adventurous, you will be ok here. It's a modest place. Just make sure you bring toiletries, flip flops, a towel and toilet paper.
To summarize: maybe not the best place for westerners who are used to luxury lodging. The location is quite good and Jawad is very friendly, but between the dirty sheets, dirty room and lack of communication, I unfortunately can't really recommend staying here if you're selective with where you overnight.
