Set in the heart of rural Ireland, Bluebell Cottage dates from the 1800's. Recently refurbished to an extremely high standard, it includes all modern conveniences in a charming country cottage setting. A perfect and peaceful spot to relax, take in the lovely views, hear the birdsong and watch cattle, sheep & rabbits in the fields. Or hit the road and reach many of Ireland's major tourist destinations in convenient day trips, and return to your haven of tranquility at the end of each day.
Bluebell Cottage was purchased by Mary's grandparents in 1892, and was refurbished in 2016 to a very high standard whilst maintaining many period features. It's our favourite place in the world!
It has a cosy but spacious living room, which includes a large traditional stone fireplace, and wood-burning stove - logs will be provided for you. Also includes large 4k TV.
The main bedroom, the oldest part of the house, is very romantic with a high vaulted ceiling, a small original stone fireplace and woodburning stove, and a kingsize traditional iron-framed bed.
The second double bedroom has a kingsize sleigh bed, and has views over the fields. This room has a luxury en-suite bathroom with rainhead walk-in shower.
There is a charming upstairs loft bedroom with two single beds and TV.
All bedroom doors are lockable.
The main bathroom is also furnished to a high standard including a bathtub which includes a rainhead shower.
There is a country cottage kitchen with all modern conveniences (dishwasher, double oven, hob, microwave, kettle, 4-slice toaster and all utensils, pots, crockery, cutlery and glassware) - and plenty of cooking books if you want to experiment.
The cottage is heated throughout by an eco-friendly source, delivering underfloor heating throughout the ground floor and radiators upstairs - it's a lovely even temperature throughout the house, and easy to adjust.
The laundry room has a 10Kg washing machine, and 7Kg dryer - and there is a clothesline outside. You have an iron and ironing board for your use.
There's wifi throughout the cottage. There are also many ethernet points connected direct to the router - so you can either use wifi, or plug in laptops (ethernet cables supplied) to get full speed from the router. Internet comes from mobile (cellular 3G/4G) signal to the router, and we get variable speeds between 2-19Mbps. We do not have unlimited data, but pay for a monthly limit - with excessive charges for over usage. Please respect the fact that we have a monthly allowance, and limit your usage to planning your trip, keeping in touch with home, and a few YouTube videos and such - please don't abuse it by streaming many movies, large downloads, updating operating systems etc. Thanks.
The cottage has good mobile (cellular) phone coverage; we receive 4G signal on the patio - however due to the traditional thick walls in the house, this signal is lessened further into the cottage (the main living areas still get 3G, but bedroom 1 gets the lowest signal strength).
We have some children's toys, plenty of books, board games and loads of tourism leaflets/guides.
When you arrive, you'll find we've provisioned the cottage with all you need for your first night without visiting a store: all bed linen & towels, logs & turf for the stoves, coffee, tea, sugar, fresh milk, fresh bread, orange juice, butter, marmalade, jam, peanut butter, breakfast cereals and various condiments and all crockery & utensils for cooking; shampoo, conditioner, soaps etc. You can also help yourself to fresh herbs from the herb garden.
We've recently finished the renovation of the cottage, but haven't yet developed the garden; so although Bluebell Cottage is set in 1/3 of an acre of grounds, the only section gardened is around the patio, and pots around and about - plus of course the abundant bluebells in April!
