A funky-meets-contemporary hideaway in the heart of the countryside; perfect for group getaways or family gatherings.
Tucked away down a winding private track just outside of the peaceful hamlet of Foscot is this seriously cool cottage for up to 14 guests; an eclectic haven with outdoor and indoor space a-plenty, perfect for families and groups alike. A traditional single-story cottage from the outside, this vibrant home comes to life as soon as you step inside, filled to the brim with eye-catching artwork, bright pops of colour and unique furnishings; all sourced from owners Adam and Rowan’s private, personally-collated collection of quirky international artefacts.
Light, bright spaces sweep throughout the property thanks to its many skylights and windows, with 7 bedrooms sleeping up to 14 guests comfortably, including two bedrooms specifically kitted-out for younger guests. It even benefits from a separate studio annex, great for teens or those who simply want their own space. The hub of the home comes courtesy of the spacious kitchen/dining/living space found just off the entrance hall, boasting a well-equipped kitchen, quirky living space with sofas and TV, cosy wood-burner and huge floor-to-ceiling sliding doors; expertly blending indoor/outdoor living by offering direct access onto the pretty outdoor dining veranda. Kids and big-kids alike have plenty of room to burn off energy thanks to the mature one-acre garden that sweeps around the property, with the hottest new-kid-on-the-culinary-block, Kingham, offering foodies the perfect dining destination just a 5-minute drive away.
The Living Space
The cottage’s contemporary-cool feel hits you as soon as you enter the bright reception hall, with walls filled-to-the-brim with a mixture of eclectic artwork- many of which are owner Rowan’s own works- greeting you as you step into the light-filled space. Just off the hallway sit the cottage’s two main living areas: a cosy snug, complete with log fire, sink-in sofas and vibrant purple walls (plus a cleverly-concealed TV) and an impressive adjoining living/kitchen/dining space spanning the rear of the cottage. This spacious open-plan hub boasts a stylish 10-seater oak dining table (plus a cute 4-seater table for little ones), high vaulted ceilings, beautiful floor-to-ceiling glass doors and a comfy lounge area at the far end; complete with TV and crackling wood-burner. The well-equipped kitchen benefits from a triple oven, gas hob, large American-style fridge and dishwasher, brought to life by vivid green cupboards and quirky mosaic tiles. Leading through the living space at the far end is a separate annexed studio area, perfect for overspill, complete with sofas, wood-burner, 4-seater dining table and kitchenette. Carrying on the impressive contemporary-meets-traditional feel of the property, this additional studio space homes a hidden attic single bedroom- found at the top of a quirky built-in staircase- plus a fully-equipped shower room and toilet, making it great for teens or older guests in search of a little privacy.
7 bedrooms can be found throughout the property, sleeping up to 10 adults and 4 children comfortably:
Tucked away down a book-lined corridor along from the entrance hall is the Master Bedroom, benefitting from a sink-in super king bed, en-suite shower room and French doors opening directly onto the property’s sheltered front garden. In here, the owners’ passion for art shines through the painted mural wall behind the bed; hand-painted by owner Rowan as an homage to her family home in southern India. A stand-alone crib also fits comfortably at the foot of bed for those travelling with babies.
Found through a unique stable-door just off the entrance hall, Bedroom 2 homes a king-sized bed (configurable as a twin) and bright, Moroccan-inspired interiors, evident through its sparkling lantern lights, cool blue hues and pretty, tiled wardrobe. We love the roll-top bath taking pride of place in the room itself, plus there’s a handy en-suite toilet room, too.
Bedrooms 3 - 5
Hidden behind a secret cupboard door in the entrance hall sit three further bedrooms, all benefitting from their own shared family bathroom. Bedroom 3 is great for adults, with its king-sized bed and French doors leading directly onto the garden, whilst Bedroom 4 can be used for big kids or those who don’t mind sharing thanks to its twin-bed setup. Bedroom 5 is definitely best for younger guests, with full-sized bunk beds, a great toy collection and plenty of space for playing, plus its own set of French doors leading onto the grounds.
A den-lover’s dream, Bedroom 6 is perfect for younger guests or adults who don’t mind a bit of a squeeze. Able to accommodate up to two guests on two mattress-beds (one single, one small double), one is hidden in the rafters up a small wooden ladder; perfect for mini-explorers in search of a hideaway. Located just off the entrance hall, the Rudyard Kipling-esque wallpaper will speak to book-lovers of all ages and it’s perfect to use as a study for those who need a little peace and quiet.
Another great room for intrepid explorers, this small annex room, sleeping one on a single mattress-bed, is hidden away up a flight of steep wooden stairs in the studio; great for teens and agile adults, not so great for those less mobile. The studio also homes a sofa bed which can accommodate two if needed. Be warned, the sky lights have no blinds on them, so it’s best for early-risers!
Brock Cottage offers blissful seclusion by the bucketful thanks to its rural location and sweeping one-acre garden, surrounding the property like a pretty, green cocoon. Mostly lawned (great for kids wanting to stretch their legs), mature trees and shrubbery reward the garden with complete privacy, with a trampoline and swing to keep little ones happy for hours. The cottage’s rear garden, accessed through the kitchen/diner’s sliding doors, also benefits from a large paved dining area complete with outdoor dining table and charcoal BBQ; sheltered from the elements by a wisteria-strewn pergola.

The actual address is Brock Cottage, Foscot, OX7 6RW
However, go via FOSCOT not BRUERN! Use the postcode OX7 6RH first (which is the postcode for Loudham Estates)
When you reach this destination type in our post code OX7 6RW. That will take you the correct route.
Once in Foscot (on a tight bend) you need to take a dead end road, which has a sign saying “Foxholes Only”
You carry on down that concrete road, past some cottages on your right. Then the road turns into a dirt track. DO NOT TURN RIGHT AT THE COTTAGES – THAT IS JUST A FIELD). Keep going straight ahead along that dirt track until the track turns to the right.
Be careful as the new postcode will take you to the main large house. What you need to do is turn left and follow this rough road until you meet a series of gates. Turn hard right opposite the little car park and Brock Cottage is on your right.
