Make yourself at home in the sunken living room featuring large fireplace, piano, and surround picture windows looking toward our 12,000 ft. peak, Sierra Blanca. Burl stump end tables made from the tree under which Billy the Kid sang to his lover, Dulcuiea Del Toboso.
Throughout the house you will see the special paintings by my grandparents, and other lovely works of art from the gallery that we owned for many years. Many of the books have been handed down through generations, and include genres of mystery, classic literature, politics, Jungian psychology, world religions, and mythic narrative. The peacock feathers featured throughout the house were gathered over a hundred years ago from my great uncle's farm.
The charming kitchen sports a lovely fireplace and island which seats six should you want to heckle the cook.
Outdoor patio has Mexican chiminea for cozy fires whether lounging for your morning coffee or enjoying the night air.
Wifi reaches throughout the house and onto the patio. * Driveway is steep, but has served us for over 30 years, and is best confidently approached in low gear.
Our family home is known throughout the area as particularly unique, and has provided a lovely retreat for many beloved guests throughout the years.
Downstairs basement is off limits. The Bogyman lives down there.

I'm happy to hermit myself away if you're looking for a refuge and special solitude. However, as my time allows, if you prefer a hostess who fusses and mothers, just let me know. I'll be available on site during your stay should you need anything.
Weitere wichtige Infos
I'm free with snacks, fresh homemade bread, lemonade, tall refreshing glasses of ice tea or smoothies, coffee or a nice cup of hot tea. If you'd like a home cooked meal or would like to barbeque on the patio, that can be arranged.
I'm happy to provide information about the area when you arrive, (tourist pamphlets available).
If you want to just hang out, there's a great collection of puzzles and board games (Masterpiece, National Park Monopoly, Scrabble, Fact or Crap, and many more).
Computer, printer, digital projector and other items may be available upon request.
As this is a split level home with steps, those with mobility issues may not find this a good fit.
Please post a clear front facing photo of yourself before booking. Tell me a little about yourself, your group, and your trip. Like most Airbnb hosts, I like to have a sense of the guests I'm welcoming into my home.
Please smoke outside on the patio unless prohibited by city ordinance. Use white face cloths provided for color stripping ointments and cleansers rather than colored bath towels. Leave all hot logs within fireplaces. It is NOT SAFE to remove hot logs and place in pine needles.
Driveway best approached in low gear at about 10-15mph without stopping. The slower you attempt the hill, the more difficult it will be.
WHEN SNOWY: A 4WD vehicle is required when the driveway is snow covered. Please honor host recommendations and DO NOT attempt this driveway under snowy conditions without 4WD. Host will offer alternative parking and pickup/dropoff should conditions require.
In general, just love my home as I do, don't litter, and don't leave your knickers lying around.
Welcome! I'm Susan, a mountain girl raised in New Mexico's Lincoln National Forest. In the early 80s, I traveled throughout the US, Canada, and Europe with the singing group, Up With People. During that year, I had 78 host families throughout the eight countries to which I traveled, and that amazing journey warmed my heart to personal hospitality as treasured bridge between my own life and the amazing lives that bubble around me, near and far.
As a national exchange student to Portland, Maine when I was in college, I managed the tourism and lobster bake events offered by the ferry boats of Casco Bay. I later worked as Assistant Dean of Students for an American college in Lugano, Switzerland, mothering students as they nested into life outside of their own homes and countries.
I've returned to the mountains of New Mexico where I teach online for several universities, primarily classes on world religions, political science, communication, writing, and psychology. I'm also the Executive Director of a non-profit, NM Organized Against Trafficking Humans. All in all, my days are filled with grant-writing, teaching online, renovating our family home, writing, and working with various state and federal task forces on the issue of human trafficking.
I love my home, and I look forward to sharing it with others, and you'll be most welcome if your travels bring you my way.
