Our thatched cottage is a listed building from 1845. It is located in Schwansen, a lovely area between the Schlei (2km away, in walking distance) and the Baltic Sea (various beaches within a 10-15min drive).
The house has a lovely large garden and terrace, a fireplace, a cosy open-plan living and kitchen area and a modern design throughout.
It’s a paradise for families and well equipped for children!

Die Unterkunft
Our holiday/weekend house is 120 sqm in size.
There are three bedrooms - two doubles, one with an en-suite bathroom, downstairs and one large bedroom with five beds upstairs.
Downstairs there’s a large open-plan living/dining/kitchen area with a cosy fireplace
(and a guitar).
The kitchen is well equipped with different types of coffee makers (bialetti, filter coffee, french press), a fridge and freezer, toaster, tea pot, utensils for baking and all the regular kitchen basics like salt/pepper/oil/tea towels etc.
We also have all the kit you need for travelling with kids: Stokke high chair (including the infant gear), travel cot, booster seat, children’s kitchen wear, toys, books, pens, duplos, board games (for kids and adults) - it’s all here, so you don’t have to bring it!
Outside there is a large wild garden with a big terrace, with seating for adults and kids. We have swings, a sandpit, see-saw, kids playhouse and an In-ground trampoline (with a protective net). Your kids are welcome to make full use of them - but please supervise them, we can’t take any responsibility for injuries. The trampoline has a weight restriction of 100kg.
We also have a gas grill and a fire pit for marshmallow roasting (Just bare in mind we have thatched roof;-).
Good to know:
- 1 basket of fire wood is included free of charge and will be waiting for you upon arrival (we’re using an honor system, if you need more you can fill up another basket and leave 8€ in our honesty jar)
- Our cleaning fee includes the bedding and towels. That means the beds will be made and you’ll have a large shower and a hand towel.
- Tea towels, bath mats, guest towels, toilet paper and all sorts of kitchen basics are included.

During your stay you have exclusive use of our holiday house and garden. And there is free parking on the premises for up to three cars.
Kids are welcome to use swings, playhouse, trampoline etc but at their own risk and under close supervision.
The trampoline has a max weight of 100kg.
Use of the garden and all equipment is at your own risk and we can't accept liability for any injuries.
Please note that we have a permanent tenant at the very front of the house, who has a separate entrance and garden. He owns a dog but everything is fenced in and there are no common areas. So our side of the house and our 2000sqm garden is all yours.
If you’d like to use the sauna, there’s an additional charge for the sauna package, which include a bathrobe, sauna towel & use of the sauna (of course). It’s 40€ pp for any time up to 5 days, and 50€ for stays of 5 days and above.
Weitere wichtige Hinweise
Arrival time is 3pm (unless agreed otherwise), and departure is at 10am (again, unless we’ve made other arrangements and if there are no immediate new guests).
While we do NOT have a TV here, we do have unlimited high-Speed Internet so it’s possible to work from here or watch a movie if you bring your laptop.
Moreover we have a washing machine and an iron - so even during longer stays you can travel light.
For the summer we have a gas BBQ for outdoor dining.
The house really is perfect for families with kids! But the three bedrooms also work for e.g. three couples - just please note that for multi-family parties additional charges apply.

The Schwansen region is unique as a holiday and weekend destination, as it’s located right between the Schlei and the Baltic Sea.
That means you can do any water sport imaginable here: swimming (closest beach/Schlei in Bienebek, 2km, walking distance), sailing (e.g. in Arnis, Germany’s smallest town, by bike/ferry 24min), canoeing, SUP, kite surfing (Weidefelder Strand), fishing etc.
The Viking museum Haithabu, in Schleswig is a definite highlight for kids, with a real-life Viking village (around 30min by car). And another great day trip is the steam train from Kappeln to Süderbarup (Check online for dates/tickets). We’re happy to send you a list of our favourite places around here.
Our house is located in the middle of the fields, in an area with only 5-6 houses around. So definitely a good place to relax and get away from it all.
