A whole house rental just south of the TN/GA line, and a short drive to downtown Chattanooga, TN. Enjoy the peace and openness of the country just 10 minutes from restaurants and Lookout Mountain. Somewhat rustic with comfy beds & full kitchen. A good retreat.
The house is an old and very basic COUNTRY house that is low to the ground. It does not smell or look like a new house although it has many creature comforts. One bedroom has a king sized bed and the other is a comfy queen with cotton sheets. All the rooms have ceiling fans and screened windows. There is central heat and air for muggy days and icy nights. I live nearby but your regular host is my barn-cat, Uncle Pussy. He dines on the front screened porch, but his access door is closed (unless you want to open it). If you are at all allergic to kitties, this would not be the house for you. The kitchen is furnished, including a full fridge, microwave, gas stove & oven, a coffee maker, toaster and blender. There is off street parking for two cars and linens and towels provided.

The wifi is called FUNKYJUNKTION. There are 2 televisions in the house but only work as a DVD and VHS. We do not allow cigarette smoke in the house or the front porch. All artwork inside the cottage is for sale. There is an outdoor star-gazing bed and hammock in the side yard as well as a cooling pool (feed trough) and fire-pit. I kill grass with carpets and create soil with a composting technique called Hugelkultur and I collect trash for upcycling into artwork; ie, the yard won't be featured in Southern Living. It is beautiful in other ways. We have chickens and will leave eggs for you when available (don't refrigerate fresh-laid eggs).

The charming village of St. Elmo is just up the road on your way to downtown Chattanooga. There are great restaurants there (including the best Thai place in town). If you get stir-crazy on the farm hearing cows and frogs, there are a plethora of arts-related, free cultural events, and outdoor activities in Chattanooga and across all 3 states that merge nearby (TN, GA, AL). August is the best month for laying on the outdoor star-gazing bed to watch meteor showers and shooting stars.
Since there is close proximity to the next door neighbors on one side of the house, and we share a central driveway, please make sure you and your guests park on my side of the driveway and never in their space.
I'm a Chattanooga native but lived in New Orleans long enough to know southern hospitality as an art form. Our Appalachian culture is a distinct and lovely thing and I'd love to share some sweet spots with you and help you connect with music, art, food and cool free events in the region. Before I became a mother (18years ago), I perambulated around Europe and the states playing music, seeking waterfalls and new friends. I live as lightly on the earth as possible and have a micro-garden and compost ready for your enjoyment. The warehouse behind the cottage is my art workspace and storage. I also have an antique shop and cafe in St. Elmo open on Saturdays only.
