Agostino was such a perfect gentleman and helped us as much as he could. We got a bit lost to start with but he came out to look for us and guide us to the house. We arrived with no food and the shops were closed, so we asked him if we could by an onion from our neighbour. He went and got us an onion some tomatoes and potatoes, and some grapes. He was so helpful.
This place is absolutely amazing. Set up in the mountains, in a lovely little community, with all the bits you need. We arrived late at night and met with Augustino who drove us the rest of the way to the house. As we entered we were greeted by a warm fire roaring in the fireplace that he's set up for us, it was so welcoming. A great start, and it only got better. He talked us though the house (it has towels, cooking bits, the lot) and showed us some breakfast bits (home mad jam which was also amazing) We then asked for local restaurants, and Augustino was kind enough to lead us (followed in car) down to the local and introduced us to the chef! Had a lovely dinner there. Great fish! Then the following days Augustino brought us some bits his wife had made, and just pretty much made us feel as welcome as he could, part of the family if you will. We actually cooked in the other nights we stayed, they have an outside wood cooking oven, so not too sure about other places to eat but if you have a car you'll be fine. There's a local food shop and butchers. Great hikes up Mt Pollino. Great views everywhere. Nice villages to explore nearby with very friendly locals. Everyone was lovely. Honestly was the most amazing place, there's too many good things to say that we can't fit it all in. We were very sad that we didn't book to stay longer as we were traveling round the south but it doesn't matter because we will definitely be returning on day! Don't worry about the roads, they're all in good condition and not too narrow. Honestly can't recommend this place enough, it was such a find. The locals were a big fan of having tourists as they don't really get them I gather. Book away!
