This light filled cozy room with views out of it's three windows onto exuberant gardens & surrounding woods overlooks the peaceful neighborhood of Baystate village. The small, charmingly appointed bathroom is just steps away. Welcome...
The guest room is the one, originally, I wanted for myself. I was so charmed by the intimate scale of it, by the light coming in from its three long windows. And by the views out those windows onto the long gardens, the surrounding woods, and the rooftops of Baystate Village where this New England Dutch Colonial house has stood, solidly, for well over one hundred years. The room is imbued with a peacefulness and harmony that is, I decided, perfect for my guests...
The guest's room, with its quite comfortable double bed futon, is one of two bedrooms on the second floor; I occupy the other. Between them there is a hallway and a small, charmingly appointed bathroom - with a deep claw foot tub/shower - that is exclusively the guest's except, occasionally, in the night. As in all the rooms in the house, the furnishings are a mélange of modern and vintage pieces carefully selected and edited over the years by me, your host, who, in a long ago adventure with my mother, owned a Midwestern antiques shop, and who has, over these many years, enjoyed cultivating an artist's discerning eye and sense of design.

My most creative endeavor in recent memory is the collaboration between my architect and carpenter and I to design and build my newly renovated downstairs spaces. In fact, I saw my carpenter fall in love with my architect the first moment she walked onto the site and now they are partners in life and work. An auspicious beginning for these new spaces which, in their expansiveness and simplicity, make me so happy... The great room, lighted by surrounding windows, encompasses a dining area, laundry, and new full-bath behind sliding barn doors. The efficient kitchten is open to the great room and is where I lay out our breakfasts on the vintage island. The living room/studio, with a cheerful fire blazing in season and its bank of French doors, overlooks the new deck, the gardens, and woods beyond. Walk along the brick garden paths to see what's coming into bloom (right now, in mid March, I see snowdrops and the slowly unfurling blossoms of the Lenten roses...), to see what has just gone by, and, perhaps, to pluck a weed or two. Enter the screened summer house - the perfect place to relax with your coffee, take your book, have a glass of wine and, as the fireflies and candles flicker, watch the long summer evening slowly turn into night.

I am an artist who works at home leading a pretty quiet life - reading, writing, gardening making. At any one time the living room/studio might hold a collage in the making or an assemblage in process... A large part of my creative process is hosting - friends, family, my guests. I am an avid cook of Mediterranean and southern California/Mexico inspired dishes using the local, organic bounty of this rich valley. I offer meals by reservation and at market prices. I provide a small breakfast and very, very good coffee...
I'm happy to share what I've come to know and love about this part of western Massachusetts where rural farmlands spread out beneath the surrounding mountain ranges, where the Mill River weaves through the little towns, and the Connecticut River enriches our fertile valley. I'm happy to share what I've come to know of our museums, our art, music and dance venues, and nearby Hilltowns. The Five Colleges, the verdant state parks, the walking and bike trails - all are easily accessible and offer rich and varied experiences.

Please be careful walking the path from the driveway (where you are free to park) to the front stoop... the roots of the venerable silver maple have made the stones uneven and some are just a little wobbly.
My home is warm and relaxed and I hope guests will feel at ease and comfortable. The house is tobacco free and smoking, if necessary, is okay well out of doors. Please, no overnight guests and, finally, I like it to be pretty quiet by 10:00. This is my home and I trust my guests will respect it and leave it as they find it when they arrive.
