Shopping in Abilene

“Old Abilene Town was a busy tourist attraction in the 60’s. However, it fell into disrepair and was closed. Over the past few years, a group of volunteers have been working hard to bring back it’s glory. Mainly funded by generous local donors, it is a work in progress and run as a non-profit organization. Volunteers have repaired and repainted the buildings, created a small general store, and reopened the saloon. The biggest event hosted by Abilene is “Chisholm Trail Days,” held annually on Labor Day weekend. Throughout the summer, can-can girls and gunfighters perform each weekend starting on Memorial weekend. Located next to the Smoky Valley Train. ”

Grocery or Supermarket
“This grocery store has been owned and operated by the Zey family for years. If you are accustomed to large chain grocery stores, it might be fun for you to make a stop at this smaller, hometown grocer. (No deli or bakery, but will have about everything else you need. They are known for their good cuts of meat.) On the west side of Abilene, so not far from our cabin if you take Old 40. Open Monday - Saturday (closed Sunday) ”
