“Darling Harbour is a harbour adjacent to the city centre of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia that is made up of a large recreational and pedestrian precinct that is situated on western outskirts of the Sydney central business district. Originally named Long Cove, the locality extends northwards from Chinatown, along both sides of Cockle Bay to King Street Wharf 3 on the east, and to the suburb of Pyrmont on the west. Cockle Bay is just one of the waterways that makes up Darling Harbour, which opens north into the much larger Port Jackson. ”

“The University of Sydney and the inner west frame Victoria Park, a picturesque 9 hectare public park. Grass fields sprawl across the park and frame Lake Northam, a quiet space where you can find a secluded and peaceful spot under the shade of a nearby tree. Take a step back into the 19th century and stroll through the many historic structures that provide a throwback to the park’s opening, and a feel for Sydney at an earlier time. These include the entrance gates, Gardener’s Lodge (which is now home to a café), an ornamental wooden bridge and Canadian totem pole with the university peeking above the horizon. A major new playground has been built with equipment for kids of all ages. Victoria Park Pool is also located within the park. Several community events take place in the park during the year, including Yabun Festival, which is an annual celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures held on 26 January, and Fair Day, a family and dog-friendly fundraiser for the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras. Sections of the park are off-leash at specified times. The park is well serviced by Parramatta Road and City Road bus services. Car parking is available, with accessible parking bays located near the Victoria Park Pool entrance.”

“OK, it's not the New York Hi Line, but it's a short stretch of converted railway that's developed on the same lines, and it's worth using it if you're walking up to Central station or UTS.”
