“Robberg Nature Reserve is just a few minutes drive from Bird Villa. There are picnic tables so even for the "non-hikers" there is a reason to go. Many of the longer trails are un-even and can be rocky/slippery so caution if you're planning a hike. This is a BIG draw to people and is worth a visit....for a several hour hike or even just a short stroll!”

“ The Famous Otter trail is one of the roughest and toughest Hikes in the world that takes you about a week to complete if you adhere to the strict time limit, even if you're not going to take part in it, do go for the day for the views of Storms River mouth, treetop zip lining and river kayaking. This is our favourite National Park in South Africa. ”

“Home to an assortment of big cats (like lion, cheetah, Siberian and Benegal tigers, leopard, jaguars, pumas and more), zorilla, hyena and honey badgers, Junkani Wildlife Sanctuary is an eye-opening, once-in-a-lifetime experience for one and all. The only sanctuary of its kind in the Garden Route, it is a conservation wildlife park, which gives animals the freedom to run, play and explore.”

“The Baviaanskloof (Valley of Baboons) is nestled between the Baviaanskloof mountain range in the north and the Kouga mountain range in the south. This 192000Ha conservation area, a World Heritage Site, is home to an amazing diversity of habitat types and species. From forest yellowoods to karoo bossies, thicket spekboom to fynbos proteas, the Kloof is nature lover's paradise! Numerous campsites and lodges, hiking and 4x4 trails are a must see and keep a look out for the San Art which adorns the pristine cliffs. The Baviaanskloof Mega Reserve Project, an exciting Eastern Cape Government and Wilderness Foundation initiative, is attempting to align and facilitate the conservation of the region's bio-diversity and natural resources, with the agricultural and rural development needs. “This is a local favorite and a beautiful place. Even those not crazy about snakes, will come away with a new respect for these misunderstood creatures. There are also other reptiles, some of which you can touch, all within a park like setting...beautiful. It's located close to the wineries so make a day out of it!”

“The Park has many sections but a perennial favorite is the canoeing/hike up the Touws river to the Waterfalls. The Big Tree walk is also a really beautiful hike in a gorgeous patch of natural forest.”

“Explore the ancient Keurbooms River still in it's natural state. Great for bird watchers. The ferry offers 1.5 hours round trip a few kilometers up the beautiful river valley. You'll stop at one of the stunning little beaches up river and be able to exlore for a few minutes or enjoy a picnic. There are basic toilets. Be sure to take the mozzie spray which is also helpful to keep other little bugs away. ”
