“This school teaches traditional Khmer crafts of stone-carving, wood lacquer-work, and silk painting to disadvantaged local youths. It is part of a movement to help revive the many traditional crafts that were lost due to the years the country spent under Khmer Rouge rule. As well as being home to a beautiful shop (Artisans d'Angkor) where you can pick up stunning souvenirs of statues and lovely local silks for all your friends and family back home, you can also take a tour of the workshops and learn about the revival of Cambodia's crafts. There are also free tours available of their silk farm, 16 kilometers out of Siem Reap town, where you can learn about the process of making silks.”

“There are supermarkets all over the place in Siem Reap so we won't struggle to find one. I feel this one offers the best range of Western products such as cheese, meats, health foods, liquors and crisps.”

“Rice wine is a part of Khmer culture, and a stop here is a must-do in Southside Siem Reap. Sombai create infused rice wine, as well as alcoholic jams and great gifts (such as handpainted bottles and glasses). There are a range of items to buy that are some of the best, and most unique gifts you can take home. Importantly, the free tour here is super fun...they will show you the wine with fruit and spices infusing upstairs, and if you are lucky you might get to see an artist hand-painting a bottle. The free tour allows you to taste the full range of wines and jams and the whole visit will take about 30-60 minutes.”
