“Each day at 11am, a small but mighty parade of adorable ducks make their way from the rooftop of the Peabody Hotel across the lobby to the marble fountain, where they spend the day. Led by their red-coated Duckmaster, the feathered friends then return upstairs at 5pm. Kids get front-row seats to the march and adults can enjoy a cocktail from the Lobby Bar. How cool?”

“When you go to the Arcade for breakfast, try to get a seat at the Elvis booth towards the back of the restaurant (it was apparently his favourite). Even if you can't get the coveted seat, you can still gorge yourself on the restaurant's fantastic sweet potato pancakes and other classic southern breakfast treats. The Arcade is one of the oldest restaurants in Memphis and the classic retro decor hasn't changed in years.”

“Go to Earnestine and Hazel’s for the real soul food experience and stay for the jukebox operated by ghosts. That’s right, in downtown Memphis Earnestine and Hazel’s is a dive bar on the grounds of an old haunted brothel. It’s home to several locally famous ghouls and the equally well-known ‘soul burger’, which costs just $6 and has gained national notoriety for its mouthwatering ‘soul sauce’.”

“The fifth Memphis eatery from James Beard Award-nominated chefs Andrew Ticer and Michael Hudman, The Gray Canary's mix of industrial modern and Old World decor is the perfect background to a menu focusing on small plates inspired by the chefs’ Italian roots and the use of local ingredients. A raw bar and classy cocktail program round out the stellar experience.”

“Alfred's Restaurant and Bar is well-known around town for its fabulous food and great live music. Alfred's was the first club on Beale Street to feature Rock 'n Roll music. Currently, they feature a variety of genres including acoustic bands, soloists, and even the Memphis Jazz Orchestra, which plays every Sunday night. They offer two patios perfect for both relaxing and partying, as well as a huge dance floor, and karaoke several nights a ”

“For something a little more low key, check out Club Rumba. This South Main club features salsa dancing late into the night every Friday and Saturday. For those with two left feet, there are free salsa lessons at 9:30pm both nights. If salsa isn’t your thing, Club Rumba has a hip-hop night on the first Saturday of each month from 6-9:30pm. Unlike Raiford’s, which doesn’t serve food, hungry dancers can feast on Club Rumba’s small pub grub menu of nachos, wings, and taquitos.”

“The Rum Boogie Cafe is one of the most happening spots on Beale. There is always a great band and a vibrant crowd. For the best rum drinks on Beale Street and perhaps in Memphis, this is definitely the place to go.”
