“The art here is, apart from the odd temporary exhibition, all the work of one man – the museum's founder Zurab Tsereteli. This now Moscow-based Georgian is one of those lucky artists who becomes a financial success in his own lifetime, and the sculptures and paintings here are characteristic of his grandiose, larger-than-life work found in many countries”

“The Georgian Fine Arts Museum boasts a large collection of medieval coins (8th-13th centuries) and cloisonne enamel (10th-12th centuries). The most valuable item is Queen Tamara’s golden cross, with an inscription decorated with emeralds, rubies, and pearls, while the cup of Bagrat is also made of gold. Especially worth noting is the Ancha or Anchi Icon, brought to Georgia from Turkey in the 17th century. This icon used to be held in Anchiskhati Church, but in 1920 it was brought to the Georgian Fine Arts Museum.”

Monastery
“Jvari Monastery (Georgian: ჯვრის მონასტერი) is a sixth-century Georgian Orthodox monastery near Mtskheta, eastern Georgia. Along with other historic structures of Mtskheta, it is listed as a World Heritage site by UNESCO. Jvari is a rare case of the Early Medieval Georgian church that survived to the present day almost unchanged. The church became the founder of its type, the Jvari type of church architecture, prevalent in Georgia and Armenia. Built atop of Jvari Mount (656 m a.s.l.), the monastery is an example of harmonious connection with the natural environment, characteristic to Georgian architecture.”

“А эта достопримечательность грузинской столицы даже «засветилась» в кино — фуникулер упоминается в небезызвестных «12 стульях» Ильфа и Петрова. Построенный в 1905 году, фуникулер и по сей день исправно возит пассажиров из центра города в верхний парк на горе Мтацминде (гора Святого Давида). По пути вагончик делает три остановки: на конечной (устроенной на горном плато) работает парк аттракционов. Проезд в одну сторону стоит 1 лари. ”
