“At Apolo you get exquisite electronica with DJ Fra and Kosmos as your gurus. Downstairs in La [2] it's Astin, where you'll hear the best house and disco with DJ Coco, Arnau Obiols and Morgan Hammer. Nitsa is Guardiola's Barça of Barcelona clubs, a place where some of the best DJs have got the dance floor pounding, and the heavy-hitters just keep coming. Apolo's three spaces also feature label-free gigs. Note that buying tickets for the band doesn't include admission to the club night: you'll need to re-enter for that, and pay an extra charge. Emerging acts and veterans of pop, rock, folk and electronica from around the world take to the stage every day of the week.”

Tapas-Restaurant

“Packed to the rafters with dusty bottles of wine, this classic but minuscule bar makes up for in tapas what it lacks in space. The specialities are 'conservas' (shellfish preserved in tins), which aren't always to non-Spanish tastes, but the 'montaditos' (sculpted tapas served on bread) are spectacular. Try salmon sashimi with cream cheese, honey and soy, or cod, passata and black olive pâté. Get there early for any chance of a surface on which to put your drink.”

Cocktail-Bar

“Cocktail bar Owners have left the century-old interior untouched since reopening the premises as a bar 15 years ago, making this one of the most elegant and atmospheric bars in Barcelona. If you want somewhere for a quiet coffee and pastry during the day – this is one of the few good-looking places in the city that is not perpetually heaving. Atmospheric place, with lots of vintage bottles and antique fittings”

“El Cañota is a Galicia-inspired seafood tapas bar, and great for kids ! It comes with good references. It’s the younger brother of the renowned Rías de Galicia, one of the greatest Galician restaurants in the city and the country. El Cañota serves the traditional dishes: fried fish and seafood, patatas bravas, Galician octopus, ensaladilla rusa, draught beer and wine. All of it top-quality, and in a laid-back venue that’s perfect for a celebratory meal, or for dinner after Teatre Lliure, Mercat de les Flors and BTM, which are all nearby.”

“Albert Adrià provides the brains behind this spot, and his restaurant Tickets is just across the road. You know that with an Adrià at the helm in the kitchen it's an innovative cuisine they're serving up, even though they try to be true to the flavours that dominated in local food from the early 20th century: the smoked, the salted, the grilled and the pickled. It's a pleasing trip to the past without leaving behind the modern mindset for the 21st-century palate.”
