A Ten Apple Farm goat hike is a two hour recreational and educational goat experience. You'll meet your hosts (and our herd of Alpine dairy goats), and hear about their 16 years of experience with goats and living on a small family farm. Once we've met the goats and the many other animals residents of the farm, we’ll set off on a hike through the Ten Apple Farm woods with the goats and Philip our sheep! The hike consists of an approximately one and a half mile loop trail through our woods on lightly groomed trails. Along the way we’ll talk about goats as pack animals, what they eat, and you’ll learn a thing or two about raising and caring for goats. There's lots of time for interacting with the goats, asking questions, or just soaking in the Maine woods and these adorable, fun animals. We end the experience with fresh goat milk and homemade cookies! Please note: Children must be at least 5 years old and accompanied by an adult. 5 and 6 year olds should plan to hold a parent's hand during the hike. (Children under 4 must be carried). Other things to note: The hike is not strenuous, but there is a little bit of steep terrain in 2 spots. We have rope railings on the trail to assist with getting up and down in those spots, but guests who have bad knees, hips, or other difficulties with uneven or steep terrain should be aware.

I can take up to 2 people per class and we will make ONE wood bowl together. I will start by showing a couple of videos of what we will be doing, followed by safety instructions before we dive in. No prior experience is required. I provide active hands-on instruction, demonstrations and enthusiastic encouragement. You will make all the creative decisions of wood type, bowl shape and size etc. I offer a selection of woods to choose from including locally harvested hardwoods purchased from me directly on the day of the class. NOTE! I can schedule this event any time or day - just let me know what day or time you want. Other things to note: Plan on getting covered in shavings! Wear work clothes and roll up long sleeves, remove watches and bracelets and long hair must be tied back. I will provide all safety equipment and advice. A materials fee of $12 to $30 covers the wood blank.

We will meet for a short orientation outside the barn. We will then introduce you to "the herd" and select a few horses to demo how to approach them, halter and lead them, groom them. You will then be helped to choose your own horse for the day. If the weather is cooperative, we can go for a short trail walk and perhaps see some of the wildlife who seem to be more comfortable and come closer when we humans are attached to a horse! Q and A is ongoing. All questions are welcome, and we will make every effort to gear the experience to the guests' individual ages and interests. Some may simply want the 'therapy value' of touching and communicating. Some may want information on how we care for the horses. Some may want a demo on how we show them in competition. Energetic guests may want to take a horse over a set of appropriately scaled jumps or obstacles. All can be arranged, and everyone in the group can do something different, as long as I can maintain my ability to be six places at once. :) We can also provide a special occasion for any age guest and his or her celebrants, with appropriate refreshments that you bring along or order here. We will be birdwatching at the famous Parker River NWR on Plum Island for exciting migrant and coastal birds. I will lead you to birding hotspots and view points for locating, observing, and identifying the refuge's diverse birds. I will let you identify the birds yourself, or provide identification tips or answers depending on your preference. Identification by birdsong and call lessons is also offered. We will attempt to build a large list of species that we observe and this list will be submitted to the eBird database of bird observations for scientific usage. Join Captain Joe for a relaxing private boat cruise over to our oyster farm where you will shuck and slurp oysters straight out of the water, and learn about our Shellfish Reef Restoration project. Feel free to bring along snacks and your favorite drink. I’ll make sure we have plenty of oysters and all the fixings for our favorite rum cocktail! This trip lasts 1.5-2 hours and is available for up to 6 people . Kids of all ages are welcome to come but I find that children ages 9+ get the most enjoyment out of this type of trip. I have a similar aquaculture trip that is designed for kids aged 4-13 if you are looking for a more family-friendly activity. Lighthouse Bikes offers bicycle tours, close to a paved trail that connects the lighthouses of South Portland. Join us for a historic tour by bike to learn more about the rich history of this area while enjoying a leisurely ride! All bikes are classic Worksman cruisers with comfortable seats, handmade baskets perfect for picnicking and pedal brakes. Our tours cover topics from shipbuilding in Maine, to the local ecology, the history of the lighthouses and insider tips for folks new to the area. The ride is mostly flat and covers five miles.

This kayak tour will start at a local public kayak launch, with a brief lesson and safety demonstration. The tour will continue through the natural waterways as we spot wildlife against the primitive landscape. As we paddle alongside parks, canals, wooded shorelines, you'll take part in local stories and Maine made snacks. Each experience includes 12 oysters & toppings including lemon, cocktail sauce, hot sauce and our chef's homemade mignonette! Shucking knives and gloves are provided for use during the class. You will be greeted by a knowledgeable member of our Boom Shuck-a-Lucka team, a group passionate individuals all oyster farmers themselves. We will provide detailed step by step instruction on how to shuck an oyster. Participants will then start shucking & we will continue to work 1 on 1 with you as needed. Our goal is to ensure that you learn to waterski your first day while building comfort and confidence on the water. First: We start with land practice to ensure proper stance and form. Second: We progress to the boom on the boat for safety and stability on your first pass, coaching and refining your stance. Third: We move to the short-line on the boom to get the feel of being pulled with the rope handle. Finally we'll move you to the long-line behind the boat (as time permits). No mixed group lessons! We offer a fully personalized beginner lesson with a "Guaranteed-2-Ski or FREE" promise!* *If you're not waterskiing on the boom by the end of your lesson your lesson is FREE! Our goal is to ensure you ski on your first time out! NOTE: All activities are weather permitted and water conditions will dictate activity type and length of runs. Average lesson length is 45-minutes per person based on six people per outing. Optimum conditions may not always be available but with our expertise and knowledge of the lake, we will be able to ensure a fun and memorable experience for everyone on board. Once everyone has a drink in hand we will hoist the anchor and head out into Casco Bay for the westerly sunset. You can listen to music on my boat’s soundsystem, or enjoy nature’s soundtrack. Take a three-hour bicycle tour on the area lighthouses along the coast of Maine! Learn about the natural and cultural history of this area while cruising on 3-speed, Worksman bicycles, complete with comfortable seats, baskets for picnicking and pedal brakes. We will visit 3 lighthouses and see three more (depending on the fog). Lobster rolls available for lunch as an additional add-on!

Each guest will make two Bourbon cocktails (in their choice of style: Manhattan, Old Fashioned, or Sazerac). Each will use a very rare and expensive bourbon, (Which will include 2 of the following: EH Taylor, Elijah Craig 18yr, Weller full proof, Elmer T Lee, Blanton's or Stagg Jr.) a special vermouth, or syrup and a bitters made in the location of the tasting. Each guest will taste the rare bourbon, vermouth / syrup , and bitters independently of each other. There will be a tasting and discussion. There will also be a tour of the bitters making facility where the class is being held.

Learn to make your own bitters – or homeopathic tinctures. For centuries doctors, shaman, and medicine workers of every stripe have been seeping herbs, roots, and spices in alcohol to create preventative medicines. In this class we will learn which medicinal ingredients to use for the tincture that suits you – or which exotic ingredients to use for your own personalized bitter. During the event we will create two mocktails, tour Owl & Whale’s facility and make your own unique bitter or tincture. Each participant will make two mocktails to enjoy during our tour, discussion, and class. Each participant will make their own 4oz bottle of bitters, containing up to ten active ingredients of their choice. They will spend time tasting various tinctures made of various herbs, spices, and roots to make their decision. Information of the history, and use in various remedies and bitters of each ingredient will be provided. Each participant will receive a bottle and dropper and a funnel for their finished product. Each participant will receive a small mason jar full of their select ten ingredients, as the maturation process for bitters and treatments takes up to three weeks.
