It is London's first gastropub! Great value daily changing menu. Get there early and be ready to share a table but all part of the experience. They are famous for their steak sandwich but we love it when they have a whole sea bass cooked on their open grill.

One of the best butchers in London with all sorts of British delicatessens from fresh baked sourdough bread to organic vegetables. Fine dining restaurant is next door but picking up a bone-in rib eye, rack or lamb or chicken breasts and cooking them at home with a simple salad tends to work for us.

If there is one thing we are not short of it's on trend coffee shops. Prufrock and Sampa are also on Leatherlane with Workshop around the corner(s) on Clerkenwell Road and High Holborn. You can leave your Starbuck's loyalty card at home :)

Drinks & Nightlife
Hidden away in Smithfield Market this 'speakeasy' not only serves incredibly creative cocktails (forget the Langham Hotel!) but have great live jazz. Fun with a group or perfect for a romantic late night.

Our favourite pub. A real sense of history here stocked exclusively with beer from artisan brewers St Peters. It can get a bit busy with people spilling outside but try to hold out for the small table in the "eagle's nest" ... you will never leave. The only problem is it's closed on weekends. The Crown on Clerkenwell Green, The Lamb on Lamb's Conduit and Queens Larder on Queen Square are all lovely and worth a visit for a pint.

Sightseeing
You have the Elgin Marbles and Rosetta Stone as well as interesting exhbitions so be sure to check out what's on online. The great court with Norman Foster's stunning glass cieling and the Libary are worth at least a look if you are not a history buff... Most museums in London are free so it pays to be a tourist.

Parks & Nature
Clerkenwell isn't exactly a leafy area but we are very close to the Inns of Court. These are the barrister chambers that are more like Oxford Colleges than a law office. They are certainly worth a stroll through. The squares tend to be locked in the evening but go during the day and feel like you are in a Dickens novel.
