In the Spaarndammerbuurt, Het Schip is a well-know social housing complex build in Dutch architecture style 'De Amsterdamse School'. The beautiful city of Haarlem (my hometown) is worth a visit. It's only 15/20 min train ride from Amsterdam Central station. This historical town has a gorgeous central market square with the Bavo church at the hart. The oldest museum of the Netherlands is located here too, the Teylers museum. You can also visit the Frans Hals museum, take a canal tour, or take a tour to visit the 'hofjes' (courtyards). Check the local tourist board on the Grote Markt for information. Don't miss out on cute shopping streets such as the Kleine Houtstraat. One of my fav restaurants is Specktakel, just behind the Bavo church.

In case you feel like taking a trip to the beach, you can take a direct train from Amsterdam Central to Zandvoor, this takes about 30 minutes. In Zandvoort, there are many beach huts where you can grab food and drinks. The historical old town has many shops. When you walk all the way to the right (facing the sea), you end up at another beach called Bloemendaal, with it's many hip beach huts and often Sunday parties with dj's starting at 4pm.
