In my opinion Ullswater is the prettiest lake in the Lake District, the steamers that cruise the lake are all heritage vessels and more interesting than the rather industrial vessels on Windermere. To reach Ullswater head North out of Windermere and take the A592 to Penrith which takes you over Kirkstone Pass where you can stop at the summit and enjoy panoramic views.
