This location on Main St. is about a 3 minute walk from the house. They not only have basic groceries but also great grab and go breakfast and lunch options. Local and organic is their focus. They also have a larger location near the Hannaford grocery store on Saranac Ave. If you order ahead of time their sheet cakes (for birthdays and such) are ridiculously delicious.

115 John Brown RoadThis is a great place to go for an easy walk, snowshoe, or cross country ski. Very kid and dog friendly, this a meticulously well groomed, very easy walk through the woods and fields. There are occasionally special events that take place there and you can check out the details here https://parks.ny.gov/historic-sites/johnbrownfarm/amenities.aspx
In the winter Whiteface is a premier skiing destination and in the summer there are gondola rides, mountain biking, and more. Further down the road, you can either hike or drive up the other side of Whiteface. If you drive up you will park, and finish with a 20 minute hike to the summit. Enjoy sensational views.
