Food scene
If you love sushi, you won’t want to miss out on Izakaya Den. This restaurant is a member of the Sushi Den/Ototo/Izakaya Den family of restaurants and they are all located on South Pearl Street (1.8 miles or a 7 min car ride from my apartment). Their sushi is thoughtfully prepared, fresh (flown in daily), and delicious. I love Izakay Den more than Sushi Den because the restaurant itself is beautiful, with giant window for open air seating and a skylight above their bar. The food and ambiance make it a winning combination. Good for celebrating special occasions like birthdays and anniversaries, too!

Kaladi is a local roaster located 2 block from my house. Take a stroll to pick up a latte to go, or stay and take in the DU scene.

Delicious burgers and fries at this local joint. There are several locations, but the nearest to my house is on South Pearl Street about 1.5 miles away. After burgers, grab an ice cream from Sweet Cow, located next door.

Trompeau is my favorite French Bakery, and during warmer months, my partner and I ride our cruiser bikes (1.9 miles) there every Saturday morning for raspberry and blueberry danishes, French baguette, and coffee. Hack: be sure to call ahead and place & pay for your order over the phone. They will leave it on the to-go rack for you, and you will have happily skipped the 15-person line!

Order the lamb, chicken, or pork by the 1/4 lb, 1/2 lb, or full lb. my favorite is the lamb. The plantains are also fabulous. Go here for a wonderful meal with a lively ambiance.

Take Iliff west for 2 blocks and turn right (north) onto Franklin Street. You will reach Washington Park (Wash Park) in approximately 1.4 miles. One lap around the park is 2.5 miles. Go for a bike ride, a run, a walk, a picnic, or just sit on a bench and take in the gorgeous views of the Rocky Mountains and lakes. Stand up paddle boards can be rented at the boathouse near Smith Lake during the warmer months. Enjoy this gem of a park.
