Drinks & Nightlife

The Iron Door is a must stop location as it's a historical saloon and in fact, the oldest running saloon in California. The name "Iron Door" comes from the saloon's front doors, which are made of iron. The interior has the typical decor of an old saloon, with the original bar intact. The roof is adorned with dollar bills and other historical artifacts. Live music is played on the weekends and karaoke on Thursday nights.

Rainbow Pools are natural swimming holes along the south fork of the Tuolumne River, where one can dip their feet, take a plunge or just watch courageous kids jump the rock lined ledges into the largest of the inviting pools. Originally a Toll Stop on the Big Oak Flat Road to Yosemite, and later a resort development, the area is now a popular picnic, swimming, hiking and fishing spot. Rainbow Pools is located 15 miles East of Groveland. Just after you pass the View Point parking area called Rim of the World, which looks down onto the Tuolumne River canyon, watch for a turn on the right just before the big bridge. If you miss the right, just after the bridge is the turnoff to Cherry Lake, you can turn around there.

Sierra Rep now presents eight main-stage shows per year at two locations - the original East Sonora Theater and the Historic Fallon House Theatre in Columbia State Historic Park. We have a staff of 25, employ more than 100 artists per year, and hold a contract with Actors Equity Association. Our actors play to 45,000 patrons each year, 60 percent of whom drive an hour or more to attend our shows. We provide a year-round draw for visitors and make our community a more vibrant place to live, and we enjoy strong community support with 1,500 season subscribers, more than 500 donors and hundreds of volunteers who help our professional artists and staff with sets, costumes, box office work and special events. To keep theater accessible to our entire community, we offer student and senior discounts, group rates, and low-cost tickets for school groups and rush ticket patrons (evenings only, cash only). We also offer a thriving education program and hold benefit previews and special events that raise thousands of dollars for community and educational groups.
