Sightseeing

Mt Haleakala is an outstanding place to spend a morning or evening. We recommend going for sunset (no reservations needed). You will need to pay for entrance to the park or have a pass such as a National Parks pass. This pass can also be used at the Kipahulu visitor center. This is a great drive ascending more than 10,000 feet above clouds. There are some hikes and other lookout points you can do as well. It can get cold at the evenings or mornings, so bring warm clothes!

Ending at a huge waterfall called Waimoku Falls. Park at Haleakala National Park Kipahulu Visitor Center which requires an entrance fee or pass such as a National Park pass. it’s amazing, affordable and there are so many easy ways to get there that surely you can find one that will suit you. You can take the ferry from Lahaina over and back for the day and explore the island on your own. If you want to rent a car or jeep when you get there, you need to arrange for it well in advance because there are a limited number of available. You can sail, raft, speed boat, and cruise over to Lanai and once you are there you can snorkel, swim, explore, golf, or do nothing but sit and have a Lanai Tai and take in the scenery. There is even a tour company that offers a crossing from Lahaina to Lanai for those who get seasick!

I highly recommend that you do some of your shopping at ABC Stores and Longs on Maui for your macadamia nuts and candies to bring home as gifts. Their prices are always spot on and they have a great selection and variety to choose from. ABC Stores are everywhere on the island and there is a CVS in South Maui, West Maui and in Kahului.
