We did a short trip to the Yarra Valley between Christmas and New Year and had a wonderful time. We left home at 4:30 am to meet up with the ballooning people. We were taken to an open paddock in Yarra Glen and proceeded to help Georgia, our pilot to prepare the balloon for take off. We were in the air for one hour and it was fantastic. After landing, very gently, we then helped to pack the balloon away.
We then were taken back to Balgownie Estate for a champagne breakfast.
Photos were taken during our flight by a camera suspended out from the balloon. Georgia airdropped all the photos to our phones free of charge and they were great.
The whole experience was very enjoyable and one we would highly recommend.

St Andrews Community Market

Healesville Sanctuary is a 40 minute drive from Dandaloo. It is a zoo specialising in native Australian animals. It has a history of breeding native animals. It is a 70 acre bushland haven where you can explore close encounters with koalas, kangaroos, wombats, dingoes, emus, birds of prey and platypus. It is an excellent day out.

We passed this place when going to lunch at Shaws Road. It was an open day and there were quite a few cars there. Maybe something a bit different.

This is a lovely space to visit and wander around.
This is a really fun family day out. Arrive early and grab a free undercover table or book one for $59. Caters for all ages. Our group was two years old to 69 and we all had fun. The huts and tables do sell our early so book on line ahead of your visit.

Bush walks
This is a five kilometre bush walk circuit that is easy going. Head out our gate, cross the road and down Manuka Road towards the Panton Hill Winery. At the winery gates take the track to the right of the driveway and wander through bush land , a winery and a dam with water lillies This track comes out on Cherry Tree Road where you turn left and head back to Dandaloo.

Turn right at our driveway and follow the main road towards the local store. Just past the store at the roundabout turn right down Bishops Road past the football club and turn left into the bush on the sharp right hand bend. There is a gateway leading into the bush. Once through the gate go 100 metres and you will come to a fork in the track. Turn right here. Follow the signposts to do either a two, five or seven km walk.

Food scene
This cafe has great food and great coffee. They are coffee enthusiasts and roast their own beans. They are open for for breakfast and lunch. Prices are in the mid $20's. Iy is a five mi ute drive from the cottage.

This winery has a great Tuscan atmosphere. It is a 15 minute walk down a windy, dirt road from the cottage. Tunis and Dorothy provide light, rustic Mediterranean meals on a Saturday and public holidays to compliment their wines.

Heartswood is situated in the main street of Yarra Glenn the former Colonial Bank building. The dishes are locally sourced and seasonally inspired. We visited Heartswood for brunch. I had the bircher muesli ($14) which was very tasty. Eric ordered eggs and bacon with extras($15). we really our meal.

38 Melba Hwy" We visited Yering Station as part of local wine tour that we went on. It is Victoria's first vineyard, established in1838. It has historic and modern buildings. We attended a private wine tasting as part of the tour. there is wine tasting available around the bar. We then enjoyed lunch in the restaurant which has views over the Yarra Ranges.
We have eaten at De Bortoli and visited on a wine tour and found it a lovely place to drop into. The gardens are beautiful and worth a wander through.

Lunch or dinner at Quaters
We visited Hubert’s Estate Quarters for dinner and really enjoyed ourselves.
With a menu full of familiar Modern Australian and European inspired dishes, Quarters is the perfect spot for foodies, families and everyone in between. There were great views across the Yarra Valley landscape. Outdoor seating and games on a sunny day.
There is also Indigenous art at The Gallery of Art.

We visited Hubert’s Estate Quarters for dinner and really enjoyed ourselves.
With a menu full of familiar Modern Australian and European inspired dishes, Quarters is the perfect spot for foodies, families and everyone in between. There were great views across the Yarra Valley landscape. Outdoor seating and games on a sunny day.
There is also Indigenous art at The Gallery of Art.
We dined at Tokar to celebrate our 46th wedding anniversary. It is a family owned and operated winery, restaurant and cellar door in the heart of the Yarra Valley.
The menu changes seasonally and reflects the surrounding region and modern Australian cultural cuisine.
We chose the chefs special menu at $90 a head and it was a variety of taste delights.
We would highly recommend this restaurant and if it is a nice door ask to sit on the deck in the corner overlooking the rose garden and vineyard.
