You've seen TV's Secret Life of the Zoo' now see why Chester Zoo is one of the best in the world.
Having grown up in Chester and been on many school trips I was dubious about this accolade but after visiting again about 3 years ago I can see why it's a top attraction.

After sightseeing there's retail. Sadly much of Chester's top name retail stores have moved 'down the road' to Cheshire Oaks the UK's largest outlet village.
This is a must go for anyone looking for a bargain from fashion to household goods to chocolates. Its grown to become a mini town in itself. Its about a 10-15 min drive away and there's free parking, but be warned, it gets busy, especially on Bank Holidays.

Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet

The Cathedral is worth a visit it's quite impressive inside. There's usually some art exhibition or event taking place. When we last went a huge Lego reconstruction of the Cathedral was underway as well.
If it's open, the Cathedral at Height gives an opportunity to take a tour up the tower to enjoy the views.
Walking around the grounds and Abbey Square is also interesting.

A short drive from Chester is where you'll find many Cestrians on a weekend walking on many trails through Delamere Forest. It's well sign posted throughout and so much work has been put into with an adventure theme park (Go Ape) and mountain bike trails and the Gruffalo trail for kids.
