LOCAL INFO: We have a gorgeous local cafe just a 10 minute walk across the road to Brackenwood Garden Centre. This is worth a visit as there are all year round seasonal plants and ornaments to buy in the indoor and outdoor shop and the cafe is cosy. They have an exceptional Christmas shop in December Our local shop is the Co op in Pill, a 3 minute drive, BS200AW. It opens 7am to 10pm daily. There is also a chemist and Post Office within the parade. If you head into Bristol via the Suspension Bridge, there are many convenience shops in Clifton. There is a pound toll to cross this bridge or it takes contactless card payments. Take plenty of change as once you head into Bristol there are parking charges. The nearest banks are in Portishead. Portishead offers fantastic shopping. There is a traditional high street with many cafes, bars and independent shops. You will find Waitrose, Sainsburys and many more supermarkets. There are no parking charges. There is certainly plenty to experience in terms of nature, culture, entertainment and food. You will be busy! We have provided you with a collection of information about all the many local attractions. Walk from the house and visit Abbots Pool. Google Maps will take you there and will give you a chance to explore the village lanes. Then do the arboretum walk down to The Avon Gorge. During May, the bluebells line the valley of Paradise Bottom. It is a glorious scene! The road down to this and many walks, is opposite the entrance to Dennyview Road. Stroll past Leigh Court Mansion House. There is Brackenwood Garden Centre along this road, en route. Walk through Leigh Woods from the house or drop down the hill towards Bristol by car and visit Ashton Court House and parklands. This year from 8th-11th August, The International Balloon Fiesta takes place. This event is within walking distance of 30 minutes from the house. You have Noah's Ark Zoo Farm 10 minutes drive away this side of the Suspension Bridge and 10 minutes the other side you have Bristol Zoo and Gardens. Clifton Village is a must for local boutiques , restaurants and wine bars. Portishead has a buzzing marina and Clevedon has the Victorian seaside pier. If the weather is hot, Portishead has a Lido swimming Pool to enjoy. There is also a sports centre with a large pool, rackets courts and a gym. There are plenty of places to eat. Our local pub is The George Inn, the first port of call as it's within a 5 mins walk. I have left a menu for you on the fridge. It is welcoming, friendly and has a lovely local ambience. The food is superb! Thursdays is 2 for 1 pizza cooked in their outdoor oven. The Battle Axes, in Wraxall, is a wonderful country pub with a stunning views and delightful menu... excellent Sunday roasts. The Best Western Walton Park in Clevedon is a traditional Victorian but contemporary hotel with a bar which overlooks The Bristol Channel. This is a wonderful place to enjoy a drink or two watching the sun set over the Welsh hills. Our restaurants of choice are: Nutmeg is an Indian restaurant in Clifton Village. The Ivy in Clifton Village is top notch! The Lido in Clifton is a fabulous cafe, tapas bar and restaurant overlooking the original historic open air pool. Tuesday is BYO! Hotel du Vin is the place to go for fine dining in Clifton with the glorious Suspension Bridge view and outdoor terrace perched on top of the world famous Avon Gorge. La Campagnuola is a family run Italian in Redland and in our opinion, simply the best restaurant in Bristol. Casa Mexicana in Redland is a fantastic family run Mexican and a favourite of ours. Also, a short trip to the Mall Cribbs Causeway will give you a wonderfully dry shopping experience all year round. We always eat at Carluccios in The Food Hall. For a spectacular sunset over The Bristol Channel and on a beautiful clear day, you must visit The Windmill Inn in Portishead. Book a table upstairs next to the window the day before. It is unbeatable, when the sky is blue !This is a family-friendly gastro pub. The fish and chips are excellent. Portishead Marina is an upmarket place to drink and eat. Hall and Woodhouse offers a cosy bar area with light bites and a restaurant with views of the marina upstairs. We eat tapas at Bravas in Cotham and The Cellar in Clevedon. The latter is a wonderful gin bar and is worth a visit. Tuesday night offers live music. ENJOY! Many thanks, Helen and Kirk
