Food Scene

Falafel can be found on just about every street corner in Tel Aviv, but Hakosem is in a league of its own, offering perfectly plump pita and deep-fried balls of chickpea mash studded with fresh herbs, alongside impeccably fresh salads. Also try the hearty shawarma or the Iraqi breakfast known as sabich — wedges of fried potato, golden eggplant slices, hardboiled eggs, and amba, a sunshine-yellow pickled mango sauce that seals the deal.

The pickings for kosher restaurants had been rather slim until last year, but celebrated chef Nir Zook, known for helming many successful spots in the past, decided to show off his kosher skills with Mapu, located in a centrally-located boutique hotel that features a beautiful garden. Zook’s obsession with local ingredients and his fervor to cook and bake everything in house make this a lovely choice for lunch or dinner.

Literally located in an underground passage, this bar/live music venue has a very laidback feel. With red dim lighting and vintage furniture, the hipster vibe puts an emphasis on the music without the frills of a posh night club.

Inside the Berdichevsky Hotel you will find a dimly lit, cozy bar decorated in 1920’s style. The well-dressed bartenders put as much effort and creativity into the presentation of their sophisticated cocktails as they do the taste. Happy Hour 6-8pm, 1+1 on drinks. If you like Bellboy, be sure to check out its sister cocktail bar

This is definitely one of the coolest concept bars ever. They call it a “cocktail bar pharmacy”, the bartenders actually dress like pharmacists, and cocktails are served in 3 different sized beaker bottles. This is the largest cocktail bar in Tel Aviv, but don’t get confused when you see a sign for “The East Jaffa Perfume Company” – you’re at the right place!
