This is a fantastic place to get food - veg, meat, everything is delicious. That said: I recommend this place for take out because the food is tremendously good but the hospitality is not great.

This Blue Bottle Coffee location is their most beautiful. It's in a old car repair shop with HUGE windows and tons of light. Pay attention to the light fixtures, the speakers!

The best pizza and pasta nearby along with fantastic wine list and cocktails. This place is an institution in Oakland and I always try to take people here to impress them. Call ahead!

Not walkable, but fantastic for brunch place. One side is a coffee bar, the other a full restaurant. If there is a wait, get the (slightly) sweet porridge on the coffee bar side - it's amazing.

Burger joint that I recommend on beautiful days when you like hanging around the more casual crew. Great drink specials ($2 tall tecatés) and really gluttonous burgers (mac and cheese burger?!)

This is supposedly the best burger in Oakland. It's damn fine and the fries are good too. It's super close so it's a great option if you need something casual quickly.

Drinks & Nightlife
This is a nice gastropub that has a LONG list of beers on draft and they do their entrees really really well. I don't care for the pretzel but everything else was above expectations. I go a lot.

This is an amazing dive with fantastic pin ball and a super great (dive) crowd. Get a pitcher and a pizza with friends or eat solo at the bar. I go here all the time.

Everything Else
Umm, if you haven't done a saline float, you might want to do this. It's walkable and you basically lay down on salt water for 75 minutes. It's SO relaxing and meditative. You won't regret it.
