Food you'll talk about

Here are the places we like to eat - so it's where we think you should eat too. Ruthie is a great cook, so when we eat out, it has to be pretty special.
This fantastic restaurant with super tasty gourmet food is also a small and healthy grocery and supplements shop. In my experience, everything you find here on the menu or shelves, has been meticulously evaluated for quality and health. Breakfast tacos are amazing, but everything is great. Dinner is surprisingly good, and they have organic wine and local on-tap beer.

Best southern breakfast around Nashville, imho. They also have a fantastic Italian roast coffee, that is my favorite coffee anywhere in the area. You can get a breakfast burrito, omelet, cheese grits, hash browns, and more. Yum! They also have tasty sandwiches for lunch, and the atmosphere is really fun kind of shabby chic.

If you like a build-your-own Mexican meal, this is the place to go. All our out of town friends and family make it a must-eat stop when they visit. The recipes are based on the founder's grandmother's dishes, and she's from the Baha peninsula.

This is a great dining experience in downtown Franklin. They have southern charm and city chic. The building is very old and has tons of ambiance, and the mixed drinks are great.

We eat here a lot because the menu is great, the service is great, and the atmosphere is really nice. They also have two menus: one for Thai and fusion, and another one for sushi. Both are excellent. Dennas has eaten just about everything on both menus and there are no disappointments. If you like ginger, get the avocado salad on the back of the sushi menu.

Great sushi with some of the best miso soup and salad with ginger dressing. All the locals know this is a great spot. Friendly staff and a nice atmosphere too.

Coffee shops are everywhere in Nashville, and if you like lighter roasts they are all good. However, if anyone in your group likes a good dark roast like a french roast, then you need to head to Portland Brew. They also have excellent lighter roasts as well. It's just the best coffee shop in the entire Nashville area IMAO. But you also can get fantastic breakfast fare for a great price. I love their egg sandwiches.

If you like tasty soup, this is not to miss. Everything here is so good that we have a hard time deciding to go anywhere else when we're up in the area. This is real food, made fresh daily. The skewers come sitting on several sprigs of Oregano, which is delightful. The fries are covered in powdery cheese and herbs. They have good beer on tap too.

Live Music

It's good to get a ticket before you go to 3rd and Lindsley. It's in Downtown Nashville but off the beaten paths. There is always fantastic music here, with a wide range of styles. Seats may be limited but it's large for a bar style venue, and there are no really bad seats in the house. Get in line early even if you have tickets.

Where to walk around

Our downtown is super charming. There are great shops, most of them run by locals. It's hard to find a prettier place in America, or one that looks like it hasn't changed in decades. There are lots of great places to eat too. Ask if there are any festivals going on while you're here. We have one just about every month.

Rich with History

The Carter house is the site of the great battle of Franklin. You can see bullet holes all over some of the buildings. There's a museum and tours, but you can really just walk around and enjoy the place. It's a short walk from Main Street.

This is a must-see if you like Civil War history. The house was turned into a hospital and there are still blood stains on the floors. After the battle, the 6 generals who died were set out on the porch. The largest confederate cemetery is behind the home.
