Outdoor Family Activities

The Old Sconset Golf Course is a nine-hole public Scottish links-style course with a small clubhouse just outside of the hamlet of Siasconset. Up until the late 19th century, the property was part of what was once known as Bloomingdale Farm. The farm was converted to a golf course in 1899, making it one of the oldest public golf courses in the country. Playing golf at Skinner's, as locals call it, is a unique opportunity to experience a part of Nantucket history while enjoying an old world golf experience with the family.

One of the most picturesque tracts of land on the island, Sanford Farm & Ram Pasture is an idyllic place for walking, running, birding and biking, with gorgeous views of North Head and Hummock Ponds and a spectacular undeveloped beach at the southern boundary (about 6 miles round trip from the parking lot). The multiple properties that make up this 780-acre nature preserve are managed by the Land Bank Commission and the Nantucket Conservation Foundation.

Off-Roading & Oversand Journeys

Located at the northernmost point of Nantucket right where Nantucket Sound meets the Atlantic, Great Point Lighthouse is a historic lighthouse originally built in 1784 and still in operation today. Exploring Great Point and the Coskata-Coatue Wildlife Refuge in a car is one of the most exhilarating off-road adventures on island. To get to the lighthouse, you will need to be prepared for a long drive over sand. Be sure to have four-wheel drive and deflate the tires on your car to at most 15 PSI. To make the journey, you need an oversand vehicle permit. Permits must be pre-ordered and prepaid before you can enter the refuge and are available for pickup at The Wauwinet Gatehouse.

Food scene

Head to Cisco Brewers in the summer for live music, tastings & tours. The brewery has three separate covered bars surrounding a courtyard, as well as a vineyard and distillery, so you know there's a lot of opportunity to have a good time. It's almost always packed, and you'll find a mix of locals and tourists. Come for the scene or grab some food at some great local food trucks and be sure to try the island's favorite beer: Whale's Tale Pale Ale. The brewery has free shuttles that leave from the visitor's center in town if you don't want to drive. Look for red passenger vans with the Cisco logo and fresh flowers on the dashboard.

One of the best restaurants on island with an eclectic menu of share plates with Chinese, Thai, Korean and Japanese influences. It's a loud and bustling place and hard to get a table here. The whole roasted duck for two is a knockout but expensive.
