This winery is my favorite not only because of the views but because of the people that work there. You can walk through the Vineyard with your glass of wine. During the pandemic, they have added social distancing in the vineyard with gorgeous bubbles to sit under. Space heaters available in their outdoor tent during the cooler months.

Brian and his wife doing outstanding job running this 1875 converted church to brewery. Located in downtown Elizabeth, the brewery has beautiful outdoor seating, life entertainment on most weekends, and I never changing list of outstanding craft beer. Bring your growler for a Philip, you’ll want it for sure

Blaum Brothers Offers are favorite bourbon, and plenty of other spirits and gifts. They are large room and bar that serves great craft cocktails for the season. Tours available. Please inquire at the distillery.

Sightseeing
Karin and Nathan Greiner are friends of mine who have a beautiful orchard on the families airstrip. They have lots of varieties of apples apple cider and donuts along with honey and other treats. Nice little country store.

Food scene
Chestnut Mountain Resort is located 3 miles down the road. They have a nice indoor dining area as well as a Summit restaurant with outdoor dining. The views overlooking the Mississippi shouldn’t be missed. In summer or other seasons make it a point to go to Northpointe located at the resort on the north side because the views of the Mississippi can’t be be beat. Bring your camera for outstanding sunset shots. In summer time the resort offers an alpine sled, zip line, Off Rd., Segway tours, hiking, and biking. In winter time they have cross country skiing downhill skiing and a half pipe park

Downtown Galena
Downtown Galena is a quaint and charming town located 8 miles from the house. During the Covid pandemic, masks are required downtown Galena. Most restaurants have outdoor dining, and heating for the cooler winter months ahead. Galena has done a beautiful job throughout the pandemic and in fact, with the dining on Main Street closed to car traffic it’s become quite spectacular.

Groceries
If you’re driving from Chicago, we recommend you stop in the small town of Stockton get some supplies and less you’re packing them from home. Sullivans is a small grocery mart with decent selection. Once at the house, the nearest grocery stores are Tammys Piggly Wiggly located 1 mile beyond downtown Galena, and Walmart. Also located another mile down the road. Walmart has a better selection, Tammys Piggly Wiggly offers curbside pick up.

Tips for enjoying yourself at the farm
Don’t forget to bring outdoorsy clothes. Sneakers or hiking shoes are recommended for walking through the woods or along the Prairie. Sweaters and lifejackets are recommended for the cooler nights at the fire pit. There’s a large high-end gas grill available for use.
