Southbank has everything! Lovely places to picnic, meet friends or promenade beside the gracious Brisbane River, admiring the modern cityscape or at night the wonderful colourful lighting effects. Wide range of modern coffee shops, restaurants, two Art Galleries, the Qld Museum and the QPAC Playhouse. It includes the famous long sculptural bougainvillea arbour, a wonderful Nepalese Temple, the Wheel of Brisbane (about $20 for 5 slow turns), marvellous water features, a lovely beach and lagoon for swimming in the sunshine with three bronzed lifesavers patrolling. Cineplex movies or 1 1/2 hr free trip on the City Hopper ferry. Take the ferry to Lone PIne to see Australian native animals.

Brilliant modern museum with well-organised outstanding interactive exhibits. Don't go there in school holidays unless you are used to major excitement and noise. Be prepared to hear and see huge dinosaurs roaring.

Great range of famous Australian art works - though a large section is currently closed for updating. A large high wall is packed full of a collage of famous paintings because no space to hang them at present during renovations. Still definitely worth going and it's free. Excellent coffee shop with water feature and fountains.

Check out the Writer's Section and Family History Exhibitions upstairs. Lovely. Also great private meeting rooms for hire and quiet spaces overlooking the grand scenes of the City backdrop to the flowing Brisbane River. Highly Recommended.

This is a brilliant zoo! The animals are housed splendidly in comfort and with real care, and visitor interaction with animals is so well thought out. Really beautiful luxuriant topical gardens. Excellent food and shows. Quality well-stocked gift shops. Thoroughly top drawer.

So peaceful and safe for swimming, or you can hire aqua bikes, kayaks or even BBQ boats. There are good change rooms and free cold showers. The amenities block is being upgraded in 2018.
