Get the right apps! First, we recommend downloading a few apps before you head out on the trails. These help give you some guidance and peace of mind, knowing if you’re on the right path or not while you’re out there. Our two favorites are: All Trails & Trail Forks
Run. Bike. MTB Stringers is a gem that’s tucked in the heart of our North Shore. This system as well marked, so no worries on getting lost out there. There are many challenging climbs at stringers. If you want a short hike with lots of hills, this is a good one. It’s great for mountain biking (what goes up must come down). There’s also a fun pump track/kids MTB course at this trail head. -Distance from basecamp: 13 minute drive -Address for trailhead: 1390 Spears Ave. Chattanooga, TN 37405

Run. Hike. MTB Enterprise is one of our favorites. It’s located right next to the VW car plant and has miles upon miles of fun, very well marked trails. It can be crowded from time to time, but usually the MTB trails are spaced out enough, it’s no issue. This is a perfect place to hike and run for as long as you would like. You can connect onto multiple trail loops. The MTB trail system here is wonderful and is a nice spot for all skill levels. There are four main dedicated MTB trails at enterprise, each with its own character and Style. This park is not as hilly as stringers, but you can still find some good climbs along the way. To be honest, you’re in Chattanooga – no trail here doesn’t have a feel good climbs… - Distance from basecamp: 18 minute drive - Address for trail head: Type in “Enterprise South nature Park” There is only one entrance into enterprise.

Run. Hike Craven’s house trail head is full of Civil War history and very cool to visit. Not to mention, the miles upon miles of trails that run along the mountain from this trail head. This is a strenuous hike, but well worth the work if you’re up for it. The view from Sunset rock is awesome. The trail begins by going up… Surprise. Then levels out to bring you to the base of the climb up to Sunset rock. This climb up is on technical rock stairs. It’s definitely doable, and fun – just be ready to climb and bring some water with you if it’s looking like a hot or humid day. Point Park is also nearby and has great views overlooking the city. -Distance from basecamp: 24 minute drive - Address of trailhead: Type in “Cravens house trail”

Run. Hike. MTB If there is any trail around here that I would say is not hilly, this is it. Guild trail is a wide trail with minimal to no climbing. There are multiple trail junctions where you can find some extra climbs if you’d like. (Upper truck/lower truck/skyuka) You will park at Ruby Falls – when you pull in, there is a gravel parking lot at the rear of the main lot- park here. Guild is good for a nice peaceful hike on a trail with lots of shade, lots of trees and very quiet. This would be an out and back hike, or you can catch upper truck to Craven’s house and then back down to Guild near where you parked. If you walk out of the parking lot and cross the road, you’ll take the trail underneath the bridge for the incline Railway. It’s kind of cool to watch the railcars go up and see the pull ropes working. -Distance from basecamp: 13 minute drive - Address for trailhead: Type in Ruby Falls

Run. Hike. Bluff Trail is also located on Lookout Mountain. It is a pretty hike with lots of cool rock formations and overlooks. You can start at Craven’s house, or up on top Lookout Mountain and work your way down. This is an out and back and I would highly recommend you start at Craven’s house, as it’s easier to navigate from this direction. Some sections of this trail can get tight and you’ll pass over some areas that may have water running down the rocks after a rain. Sections of this trail can also get rocky and technical. Nothing crazy here, but it’s good to watch your step on this one. -Distance from basecamp: 24 minute drive - Address for trailhead: Type in “Cravens house trail”

Run. Hike This is a nice easy hike on top of Signal Mountain beginning and ending at Signal Mountain HS. Drive all the way to the back of the high school grounds and park in the very furthest gravel parking lot – the trail head is down a flight of stairs across from the soccer fields. After walking down the steps, turn left and head down that way- at the first junction, turn right, and then simply follow the signs for Mushroom Rock. Once you arrive to mushroom rock (you’ll know it when you see it), walk around the back of the massive rock and find a single track that zig and zags its way down the ridge to the river. Here you will find a large hanging bridge you can cross. It’s a cool spot for a photo and the trail continues on for quite a while, so feel free to keep exploring if you’d like. Keep in mind, single track can sometimes be overgrown a bit and is narrow – so be prepared for that. Also – the drive up Signal is a nice one. Take W road on the way up if you really want some mountain driving! It’s very tight and zigs/zags its way up to the top. -Distance from basecamp: 26 minute drive -Address for trailhead: 2650 Sam Powell Trail Signal Mountain, TN 37377

Run. Hike This is a 2.6 mile loop on Signal Mountain that takes you along Rainbow Falls. Reviews are mixed on this loop. Some people like it, some people don’t. I’ll leave the decision up to you. It’s on the list because it’s a popular trail that starts near Signal Point Park, which is a very cool area on top of Signal. -Distance from basecamp: 25 minute drive - Address for trailhead: Type in “Signal Point”

Run. Hike Cloudland is a bit of a drive, but very worth it if you want a day of exploring. The drive is also a nice one from Lookout. This is a state park in North Georgia, so you’ll need to pay a day fee for you to enter. There are tons of breathtaking views as well as multiple waterfalls to see. Massive bridges and huge climbs (if you want to do them). You might spot a few rock climbers or hang gliders around. The trail system is built to connect, making it easy to hike 1 mile or 30 miles. The terrain ranges from technical single track, wide open groom trails, to strenuous rock steps. Make sure you grab a map when you arrive, or utilize one of the apps we recommend on the first page. -Distance from basecamp: 37 minute drive - Address for trailhead: Type in “ Cloudland Canyon State Park”

Run. Hike. MTB Raccoon is a beautiful spot to explore. The drive around the top of the reservoir is especially cool and recommended. These are arguably the best MTB trails nearby Chattanooga, as well as some of the best and most hiker friendly trails in the area. The museum also has some really interesting facts about the facility and boasts some incredible views of the Tennessee River. A hop and a skip away for this one, but definitely worth the drive! - Distance from basecamp: 22 minute drive - Address for trailhead: Type in “Raccoon Mountain Pumped Station Reservoir”
