Food scene

A rooftop bar in downtown Gilbert that will have the Arizona sunset showing itself off from your seat. Best thing about this location at sunset is the $6 cocktail menu before 6pm. The old fashion is our favorite happy hour cocktail, and their burgers are some of the best we’ve been able to find in the valley.

An Asian inspired kitchen, our favorite place for ramen. Their drink “riding the pine” is our favorite drink on the menu.  You can’t go wrong here -the food is fantastic, and the drinks are always on point.

A fun brewery with a large outdoor patio that is always packed with fun people and their dogs! Also a great place for breakfast (we love their chicken and biscuits), if you buy food you get a wine-glass-sized mimosa for a penny!

Underground speakeasy. Fun atmosphere and delicious cocktail lounge but drinks are a little pricy here. Be sure to look at their website to get the password of the day to enter (a true “Speakeasy” atmosphere)

Hiking

Be sure to bring PLENTY of water and some snacks with you!
Hieroglyphic Trail is a 2.8 mile heavily trafficked, out and back, trail with 567 ft elevation gain located near Apache Junction, Arizona that features a waterfall and is rated as moderate however, I’ve seen many families with young children (as young as 3 years old) out on the trail. The trail is primarily used for hiking and is accessible year-round.

This is Ruth’s favorite hike in the area, it’s a difficult one! It has 2,641 ft of elevation gain and requires some scrambling up the rocks. Flatiron via Siphon Draw Trail is a 5.5 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Apache Junction, Arizona that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as difficult. The trail is primarily used for hiking and is best used from September until June. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash. There is a fee (I believe it’s still $10) so make sure you have some cash with you.
