My favourite cinema

The comfiest, yummiest cinema - 5 mins from the flat. Turn right onto Portobello Road. Get yourselves one of the beds in the front if you want to cuddle up. Delicious treats. Book ahead.

Again only if you have kids, or like playing table tennis! (Borrow our table tennis bats and balls from the games cupboard in the dining room (bottom left). Walk north up Portobello and you reach this brilliant playground. Has trampolines, table tennis, dog walking. At the best end of Portobello. Our 4 year old's favourite - and the 14 year old doesn't mind it either. 370 Portobello Rd, W10 5RP

Yoga

Yoga studio at 92 Golborne Rd, W10 5PS at the top of Portobello Road. If you like yoga - then I urge you to try a class here. My favourite teacher is Manizeh - the woman who brought Jivamukti Yoga from New York to London many years ago. It is a beautiful, light, community space and you will walk out of there floating on air.

Home cooked Palestinian food. Absolutely delicious. Highly recommend the fattoush salad. Cosy vibe. A 10 min stroll down to Golborne Road (the better end of Portobello IMO!)

If you're a Soho House member then go upstairs, but if not this does not disappoint. This is where i choose to go for breakfast / brunch. Poached eggs and avo on toast. Or a burger. Yummy and good atmosphere. Ask for a booth. Great for kids.

A very very very special restaurant. Not nearby. But if i had to recommend one very special place to eat, it would have to be here. YOU MUST BOOK! Recommend getting the tube to Richmond then walking along the river to Petersham, where you get your table in the nursery. Eat spectacular food. Then get an uber home! It's not cheap, but if you want to treat yourselves, this is it.

Cool, cosy, fun, lively and romantic. Middle Eastern-Mediterranean food. In Queen's Park, just north of Portobello. On a lovely cobbled street. Nice change of scene that's not too far away.

The Portobello Grand, 274 Portobello Rd, W10 5TE. A great new local restaurant. Lovely spot for an outside sundowner around 5pm when it catches the light, or a romantic dinner in the window. Great menu for vegetarians and meat eaters alike. Feels special.

Swimming

Great, newly refurbished, local swimming pool. Kids pool and adults. 15 minute walk. Turn left onto Portobello Road and left again onto Lancaster Road. Keep on it for about 10 mins (cross Ladbroke Grove and St Marks Road) and then you'll get to the KAA school. Turn left here and keep walking. You'll find it.

Classic boozer. One of the few that hasn't changed TOO much (although they've all been 'gentrified' now. You will still find the old locals in there during the day. A quiz night most Thursdays (do check). And good pub grub.

Special pub, on the river between Hammersmith and Chiswick. Get yourself to Hammersmith Bridge, then walk along, past numerous other pubs and see river life, the rowers, the famous St Paul's Boys' School across the river. Until you reach the Dove. Special, old school. Great.

Sightseeing

Worth walking north up Portobello (left from the mews), and then right along Golborne Road to see the famous Trellick Tower, a bastion of brutalist architecture designed by Erno Goldfinger. Once hated, it's now a listed building - a beacon in West London, much admired and treasured by (most) locals. Take it in, learn about the social history of the area. Visit the Goldfinger Factory underneath. Walk along the canal that runs behind it. Stop for a pint at the Grand Union pub - and loop back round to the flat.
