Firemen's Tower was built in 1904 (architect Ferencz Dittler) as a fire watch tower. The brick tower rises 47m starting from a 10 m square base, the cylinder about 4m in diameter. There is a conical cupola on top with a tall finial with the city seal (serving as a lightning rod). The slender shape and observation balcony near the top resembles a minaret. After climbing several hundred iron steps (no elevator), you can find the lookout area, which offers superb views over the town. Fireman's tower was restored in 2005, and is a symbol of the old town. It is beautifully lit at night.
