Jennifer's Guide to Long Beach

City/town information

A relaxed beach town with spectacular sand, surf and a boardwalk stretching 2.1 miles. Long Beach has restaurants catering to varied tastes. The Long Island railroad station is in the middle of town-- the dividing line between East and West Long Beach. The east is mostly residential, and the west has business/ store fronts along Park avenue (the main street) surrounded by single family homes and apartment buildings. The homes are as eclectic as the population with mini mansions over 100 years old, raised homes reaching vertically, and bungalows-- the original tiny home. If you travel into town from the east, you will start to notice increasing opportunities for shopping and dining-- that means you are getting closer to the west. Although it is technically on East Park Avenue, the Movie theater marks the beginning of exploring life in LB. It is right in the east meets west part of town that food , fun and shopping await. Keep heading west and find a lively bar scene and California vibe in the "West End". Locally owned shops dot the business areas, so there is something for everyone. The main draw of course is the pristine beach which from spring to mid fall offers opportunity for recreating and fishing.

Long Beach's best pizza is Gino's. If you eat in there is a modest dining room and fresh hot pizza. If some want food other than pizza they make excellent soup and pasta dishes. You can order delivery online.

A great spot for food and drinks this is an elevated, upscale pizzeria if you choose to dine in. There is a to- go and delivery arm, but then I'd choose Gino's.

Want wings? This is the keystone Long Beach joint. It is a relaxed local favorite offering lunch and dinner. The wings are a favorite as is the straw burger and tidbits. Home from the beach and hungry but don't feel like dressing for a night out-- Billy's is the place. You might even meet Billy himself.
