Sylvan Lake has been one of the park's most popular spots since before the park even existed and because of that, it has almost every amenity imaginable from rooms and fine-dining in the historic Sylvan Lake Lodge, to campsites (sorry, no large RVs or trailers), a general store, amazing hiking trails and more. There's also a swimming beach and boat rentals (non-motorized only) where visitors can rent paddle boats, canoes or other watercraft rentals. Fishing is allowed in any one of Custer State Park's lakes with a valid South Dakota fishing license.
Any Black Hills vacation would not be complete without a day spent exploring and enjoying all that this crown jewel of Custer State Park (which, by the way, is considered one of the best state parks in America) holds.

Water activities and beautiful views.Sylvan Lake is probably the most recognizable of the five Custer State Park lakes, and of any of the Black Hills lakes for that matter. Its definitely a favorite of almost anyone who has seen it, especially photographers, artists or anyone that saw the Nicolas Cage movie "National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets" (although the location may seem off). Sylvan Lake is a very popular spot for weddings and other special occasions or as the most beautiful swimming hole one could possibly find.

(DHI) launched its new project The Brothel Deadwood with guided tours of the Shasta Rooms or Beige door located at 610 Main Street on the second floor. The tours focus on the interpretation of the century-long history of the brothels in Deadwood.
The Brothel is open to the public year-round. Open daily in the summer (May-September) 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Winter hours (October - April) are Wednesday - Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with the last tour at 6:00 p.m. Admission is $15 per person. You must be at least 16 years old to participate. For more information please call. Brothels were a fixture on the second story of several Deadwood Main Street buildings from 1876-1980. This aspect of Deadwood’s history, although difficult and uncomfortable to talk about, had a huge impact on the community. A series of eight rooms have been curated with period-appropriate furnishings to help transport the visitor to another era.
The Brothel is not an attempt to glamorize prostitution, nor is it meant to be an approval or condemnation of prostitution. Rather it is an integral part of the narrative of Deadwood’s unique history. What visitors take away from the tour, and any opinions or points of view they might form from the history of prostitution in Deadwood, are of their own volition.
