Sightseeing

One of the most popular beaches on the island is Tsambika. It is located southeast of the city of Rhodes, under the rock that hosts the famous monastery of Panagia Tsambika of Psili. At this golden sandy beach with crystal clear waters you will enjoy family dives and water sports. It is organized with umbrellas and sun loungers, and it also has deck chairs. For those of you who do not have a car, a good alternative is to get one of the boats that leave the city and make daily cruises to the beaches. For the more daring we recommend climbing on the hill of the church with the magnificent view.

Afandou Beach has a more family profile. You will find it shortly after the homonymous village, to the east of the island. Its long length allows for many choices, since only in some places it is organized and you will easily find some more lonely point, only for you. Lie down on its pebbled shore and enjoy dives in clear waters, but deep down.

Traganou beach Rhodes: The beach of Traganou is located 20 km south of Rhodes town and 4 km from Faliraki Beach. Only a small part of the beach is organised, offering sun beds and umbrellas rentals while the rest of the beach is left to its natural beauty. Small light coloured pebbles are forming the beach, boarded by wonderful crystal clear waters. A superb cave is standing on one extremity of the beach, giving to the whole place a unique and magical atmosphere. A small fish tavern is welcoming the hungry bathers during the day time.

Below the beautiful settlement of Lindos there are two beaches with tranquil, crystal clear waters guarded by the picturesque bay. Swim in the organized beaches, admiring the whitewashed settlement and the castle that overlooks the hill. And the list does not stop here. From the cosmopolitan beach of Rhodes Town to the quiet beach of Kolymbia, the only sure thing is that on this island you will be full of sun, sea and endless dives.

One of the must visit when you find yourself in Rhodes are the famous sources of Kallithea, which have been the scene of some of the most famous Greek films and still charms locals and tourists. The small successive beaches of the area are surrounded by pine trees and palm trees. Here are the hot springs of Kallithea.

Mt. Filerimos (Philerimos, Φιλέρημος), just outside the capital Rhodes (15km), is a hill 267m. high, overlooking the small town of Ialyssos and the bay of Ixia and Trianda. From its top you can enjoy a panoramic view of the Aegean with turquoise waters near the shore and deep blue as it stretches toward coast of the Asia Minor. Thickly planned with cypresses, pines and other trees, it is an ideal location for a long walk into the Rhodian nature. A winding road leads to the top of the hill where, in relatively wide plateau, the Monastery of Filerimos is located. This place is also an important archeological site; here once stood the Acropolis of the ancient town of Ialyssos with an important temple dedicated to Athena Polias.

The little bay of Agios Pavlos (Saint Paul) lies 48 km south of Rhodes town and close to the ancient acropolis of Lindos. According to a local myth, the bay owes its name to the lovely white chapel standing on the beach which is dedicated to Saint Paul, who came here in 43 AD and preached Christianity. Golden sand and pebbles compose the beach where sun beds are available for rent. Rocks are boarding the beach, giving the possibility to dive into the clean turquoise waters. Source: www.greeka.com

Do not miss to visit a magnificent location on the southernmost tip of the island, Prasonisi. It is essentially a rocky island, connected to the rest of Rhodes Island with a narrow strip of sand about one kilometer long. The two beaches formed, due to the winds, blend and cover the land, creating an image of unique beauty. The area is considered a paradise for surfing enthusiasts, especially in July and August where strong winds blow.

It became famous for shooting the film "The Cannons of Navarone", loved by protagonist and famous actress Anthony Quinn and eventually took his name. Anonymous Quinn Beach is ideal for underwater diving because of its submarine morphology and attracts many boats as it has a small pier in which it can easily anchor. Surrounded by rocks, embracing its crystal clear waters.

Ladiko ROCK CLIMBING with RHODES ADVENTURES
A unique nature reserve is to be found inland on Rhodes, “Butterfly Valley” (in Greek “Petaloúdes”). Apart from its aesthetic value, it is also the site of the only natural forest of Liquidambar orientalis (Oriental Sweetgum trees) in Europe, and a resting point for the Jersey tiger (Panaxia Quadripunctaria), a nocturnal moth. An excellent place for families with children who wish to enjoy the beauties of nature and examine the life cycle of butterflies as part of their summer holiday. You and your children will love the peaceful walk through the shaded, green valley with its small river and beautiful waterfalls. You are permanently surrounded by butterflies camouflaging themselves against the tree trunks as you walk up towards the monastery at the top, or rest for a while on one of the wooden benches along the way.
