One of our favorite bar and restaurants because of the location right on the Truckee river. They have a large stone patio with walk up barbecue menu on the patio during the summer months that is very popular with rafters ending their float trips from Tahoe City.

The best high-end dining in Tahoe City. It’s a special place with outstanding cuisine and spectacular lake views from the deck or indoor tiered seating area. They have a small bar that you can also order dinner at or have a glass of wine before you are seated. Chef and staff of servers are top notch.

Iconic Scandinavian home built in the early 20th century at the edge of Emerald Bay. Vikingsholm Castle is a 38-room home that is long considered as one of the finest and most incredible examples of Scandinavian architecture in the United States. Vikingsholm Castle was built in 1929 by Mrs. Lora Knight, and still holds some of its original features, symbolic of 11th century stone churches in southern Sweden. A National landmark, Vikingsholm is a one mile steep walk on a downhill dirt road from Highway 89 at Emerald Bay. It is a State Park and offers tours daily in the summer. You can hike down to Emerald Bay and walk the perimeter of the building without tour reservations however.

Sand Harbor State Park on the Eastshore Nevada side of the lake offers very popular sandy beaches, crystal-clear water and interesting rock formations for a great day outing with swimming, kayaking and sunbathing. Boats for water-skiers and fisherman can easily launch from one of the park’s two ramps. Plan to leave early though because the parking lot fills quickly in the summer months. The park also hosts the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival every summer.

Tahoe City rafting excursions feature a leisurely, self-guided, five-mile float down the Truckee River. This journey is perfect for families, couples, or anyone looking for an awesome day of river rafting in Tahoe City. The trip takes about two to three hours, depending on your pace and number of stops. There are several outfitters just beyond the dam at the Tahoe City “Y” intersection that offer raft rentals complete with oars and life jackets. The river itself is mild and easy to navigate, but includes a few surprise rapids for an surprisingly fun end to your rafting voyage. Rentals usually include a convenient shuttle service at the launch point to get you started. Relax in the river’s many swimming holes or take a leisurely sandbar picnic break. The journey begins in Tahoe City and ends at the River Ranch Lodge patio, where you can enjoy a delicious outdoor lunch, the perfect end to a fun 1/2 day excursion.
