Rio Grande Nature Center State Park

This park is in very close walking distance, with walking trails and free outdoor exercise equipment and bike rentals nearby.

Tiguex Park

There is both a great botanical garden and a great aquarium on Central and New York, just before the Rio Grande bridge. The aquarium will surprise you for such a land-locked city. Big shark tank viewable through the side (including from inside the restaurant), jellyfish, and all the usual Aquarium attractions. Be sure to walk the beautiful trails and see the beautiful exhibits all around grounds.

ABQ BioPark Botanic Garden
2601 Central Ave NWThere is both a great botanical garden and a great aquarium on Central and New York, just before the Rio Grande bridge. The aquarium will surprise you for such a land-locked city. Big shark tank viewable through the side (including from inside the restaurant), jellyfish, and all the usual Aquarium attractions. Be sure to walk the beautiful trails and see the beautiful exhibits all around grounds.
Sightseeing
Jemez (pronounced HAY-mez) is one of the more beautiful red-rock scenic drives in the state, and it's just less than an hour's drive each way. Or drive through to Valles Caldera, Bandelier National Monument, the city of Los Alamos and through to Santa Fe. That trip is about 3 hours, and you can come home in an hour on the freeway.

Jemez Springs
Jemez (pronounced HAY-mez) is one of the more beautiful red-rock scenic drives in the state, and it's just less than an hour's drive each way. Or drive through to Valles Caldera, Bandelier National Monument, the city of Los Alamos and through to Santa Fe. That trip is about 3 hours, and you can come home in an hour on the freeway.
The tram takes you in a cable gondola straight to the top of the Sandia Mountains on the east side of town. The views are spectacular, and there is a great restaurant at the top and some very beautiful hiking trails along the crest, including a paved walkway that is more like a stroll through stunning scenery than a hike. This experience is truly jaw-dropping.

Sandia Peak Tramway
30 Tramway Rd NEThe tram takes you in a cable gondola straight to the top of the Sandia Mountains on the east side of town. The views are spectacular, and there is a great restaurant at the top and some very beautiful hiking trails along the crest, including a paved walkway that is more like a stroll through stunning scenery than a hike. This experience is truly jaw-dropping.
Tent Rocks are an other-worldly sight, like so much of New Mexico's geology. Cone shaped formations jut straight up, each with a huge rock seemingly balanced on top. It sits between Albuquerque and Santa Fe very near Cochiti lake. It's set up with a paved walking trail in a circle about a mile long, so it's an easy hike through some amazing scenery. In the summer, go early to avoid the heat, and always bring plenty of water.

Getting Around
Alvarado Transit Center. This is the main train station in Albuquerque where you can catch the Rail Runner to Santa Fe or the Amtrak. It's about a 25 minute walk or maybe a 10 minute car ride.

The Sawmill district with it's emerging shops, eateries, coffee shops and bars a newly developing spot in town expected to grow and expand over the next few years. It can be difficult to find food after 9 PM in our area, and Ponderosa is one place to find it within walking distance.
