The name is taken after the ancient city Itanos, sited in the area. Next to the archaeological site of Itanos there are the three consecutive bays of Erimoupolis (a second name of the region). Thus, you can combine your visit to the archaeological site with a dip in the cool waters. It is noteworthy to tell that part of the ancient Itanos is under water. Thus, a unique experience is to snorkel above the ruins, which now house only fish!

Xerokambos is located 103km southeast of Agios Nikolaos, 47km south of Sitia and 69km east of Ierapetra. As evidenced by the long distances from the major cities of Lassithi, the settlement of Xerokambos is one of the most remote areas of the island. It can be accessed primarily through the road connecting the town of Sitia (and Ierapetra) with Ziros, while there is a second choice of asphalt road coming from Zakros. From Ziros, the paved road passes through some green plateaus and deserted medieval villages (Etia, Chametoulio).

The amazing gorge of Richtis is located in Lasithi Prefecture, on the north side, between Agios Nikolaos and Sitia. It starts just outside the village Exo Mouliana and ends at the Richtis beach, east of the village of Kalabro. The total length of the route is approximately 3 kilometers and the elevation difference between the starting point and the beach is about 350 meters. The gorge, even in summer, has enough water, which is used by locals.

It is out of question that the most beautiful beach on the island of Chrissi is the north beach of Belerinina or Golden Beach, where the largest percentage of visitors to the island spends its time. However, there are more beautiful beaches that you can explore.

Cave Kato Peristeras is located east of the village Karydi at position Kato Platyvolo (altitude 560m). Ti takes about 5 minutes to walk from the car parking point to the relatively distinct path. It is basically a cave with large impressive entrance with high gradient. The entrance is not easily visible because it is flat. It forms a sizable descending room quite well lighted at its entire depth. The fallen parts of the roof have covered the floor, while the feces of pigeons make descent very slippery. Deep in the main, between boulders, an aisle leads to small galleries. This part of the cave is adorned with stone decoration. The total explored length of the route is 170m.

At position Patelia, about 1 km NW of Sitanos we meet the large cave of Oxo Latsidi, formed in Jurassic limestone. It was originally accessible for 50m. It was later studied by Paul Faure and mapped by Eleftherios Platakis and Ioannis Tsifetakis, who found a long tunnel 360m long. After the entrance we meet a room (34m x 16m) and a chamber on the right (32m). On the left, for 330m extends the tunnel with a width of 2-8 m and a height from 0.5m-1.5m. Recent surveys give the cave a longer length of up to 1.000 m. The different flows of water give the impression that it was once an underground riverbed. Generally the decoration is poor.
