Delicious pizzas cooked in a wood fired oven. Soft, doughy crusts with indulgent toppings. Also serves great sandwiches at lunchtime - the coffee is amazing and in the mornings they serve freshly baked pastries and bread.

Just across the street, this quaint bakery and cafe offers a very homely feel inside, with generous couches and a log fire. Not to mention they make the most incredible cakes (or gateaux) and bake a variety of breads, bagels, etc. A lovely place to drop into for a coffee, a sandwich or pick up some cakes to bring back to the lodge.

Simply stunning food. Soba noodles (made from local buckwheat) presented in a humble and traditional way. Always delicious, always fresh, and always worth a visit. It's about a 5min walk from the lodge. Watch out for the slippery floor in ski boots (slippers are available)

French pastries that melt in your mouth; fresh breads; intricate tarts and filo pastry savouries. The coffee is pretty good too. Open early and just next to the Seicomart bus stop. It might not be as cheap as the convenience stores, but it's a whole lot tastier. Note: there is no seating here - just Grab'n'Go

Ramen Noodles. That's why you go here. Oh, and there's a bar too. It's got all the essential ingredients to a delicious meal - and its cheap. Around ¥1,000 for your meal. There's nothing fancy about this place; it's from a time before Niseko became the international resort that it is today Careful, mind - as their spicy ramen should be approached with caution; start off with mild and see where it takes you.

Refined Italian cuisine. A simple menu, with nice wines - but not cheap. At lunch there is a set menu - which makes the experience more affordable. The pasta is home-made and this restaurant definitely takes you away from the hustle and bustle. Call ahead to check they have a table as there's only about 20 seats. But definitely worth a visit just to see their CAKES. They produce the most beautifully intricate petit-gateaux.

A favourite of our longest returning guests. This traditional izakaya would be easy to walk past - as it's practically our neighbour - but is well worth a visit. It's run by a family where their little boy used to serve the drinks, but he is no longer little - but everyone recognises him as soon as they go back. The food is simple, delicious and such a friendly place. Their hot-pot is very generous and can easily feed an entire family.

The SUSHI TRAIN in Kutchan is well worth a visit. Lively from the moment you enter, with sushi chefs preparing the food in the centre of the train. It's cheap, it keeps coming and a few drinks will help you wash down anything you weren't too sure about ordering. It's a bus ride away, but worth it.

Sensory Overload. It's the restaurant where everybody shouts at you - or more accurately, around you. Let this not put you off. It is one of the most iconic restaurants to visit in Niseko. Definitely book ahead through their website - though they do hold 30 seats unreserved for ppl who line up at the doors at 6pm. Recommendations: Suki-yaki hot pot, Fried Chicken, well everything is good there. Not cheap, but worth the price.
