Love Nomad, food is stunning and fitout is gorgeous too, you can sit at the counter or get tables. Reservations essential and usually hard to get last minute. Easy 5 min walk from the apartment.

One of my favourites, Japanese food with a Taiwanese twist. Has great peking duck wrappers as well as ngiri. Tuesday nights usually has live music (but gets booked out super early, make sure you ask for downstairs seating).

Fantastic cafe for breakfast, brunch, lunch or just coffee. Their meals are intricately constructed masterpieces. You will not come away hungry. Usually a queue on weekends, but worth a wait in the adjoining park.

A completely fantastic restaurant to visit whether you're omnivore, carnivore, vegetarian or vegan. Beautiful meals!

One of the local pubs, has a great cheap menu most nights. Menu is getting more Southern US styled which is great, po boys (no blackened catfish sadly for me!), really interesting burgers and all the usual aussie pub favourites. Oh and the craft brew menu is outstanding with some 33 odd on tap.

Sightseeing
Walk down Elizabeth Street, across Hyde Park and down into the domain to Mrs Macquarie's Chair (spoiler alert, it's not actually a chair). Admire the harbour bridge and opera house, and walk along the shore to the opera house. Have a drink at the Opera bar and either go shopping or keep walking to and across the bridge. Beautiful walk, and when you get tired, jump on the train at Wynyard or Circular Quay and head on back to Central.

This is a pretty amazing neighbourhood with a colourful (and sometimes bloody) past. Walk around the lanes and streets and admire the eclectic terrace houses, tree lined streets and the generally interesting vibe.

Fireworks every Saturday night during summer. Walk down and around Cockle Bay Wharf, down past the Aquarium to Kings Wharf and Barangaroo. Loads of restaurants, bars.

A zoo with one of the most amazing urban backdrops I've ever seen. Also has some pretty fantastic shows and events held there, I've been to a Zoo Brew craft beer exhibition, the Vivid festival had an amazing precinct there, live music and the list goes on.

Train station that connects Sydney to most of it's parts (I exaggerate slightly, but it is the centre of my public transport universe). A 6-8 min walk up/down the hill. Also has buses but I confess that I don't usually take the bus from Central, the buses I do take are usually from Wynyard as they're heading north.

Best train stop ever. Has two underground shopping malls that take you underneath the city with some excellent shopping as you move through.
