Windmill Hill Gardens is a great little place the foodie will enjoy! For such a small place they have a nice selection of wine, baked goods, cheeses, veggies, and gourmet staples as well as some frozen entree options. It’s a great place to supply a picnic! They hydroponically grow greens in there! So interesting! They also have a nice small gifts offering.

Tilth & Timber is a super farm just a few minutes drive away, off neck of Castine at 165 Castine Rd where you can pick up beautiful fresh green veggies all cultivated by a young couple & their toddler & baby! They’ve built a beautiful farm stand where you can also purchase their own free range eggs..(also available at Compass Rose Books)
NEW!! I just saw an announcement they also sell locally roasted fair trade coffee at their farm stand! Friday 2-6 and Saturday 10-2

They’ve built a beautiful farm stand where you can also purchase their own free range eggs..(also available at Compass Rose Books)

This Al fresco eatery just recently changed hands (it was Captain’s Catch) and I have been reliably informed that the food is delicious! It is a wonderfully casual place to relax on the Castine town wharf and sit and wait for & then enjoy your food! Bon apetit! ♥️

Parks & Nature
Fort Madison is a beautiful historic site where you can gain access to and explore the beautiful rocky beach or just simply have a picnic..or both!! There is a great hill here for sledding in the winter!! The park is just a few minutes stroll from the cottage! We have lovely photos of the view & beach of Fort Madison in our cottage photos!

Wadsworth Cove is a very protected beach just minutes from the cottage by car. Take a picnic and enjoy the splendor of the spectacular sunsets there, take a stroll or swim! The world is your oyster!

Witherle Woods
Barred Island Preserve is absolutely beautiful! We suggest using Maine Trail Finder during your stay and Alltrails. Both are invaluable resources in Maine! There’s so much preserved land to enjoy! This place is a perfect place for a picnic!

This museum is a fabulously curated collection of amazing pieces! A great place to go if the weather is inclement or if you just want a quiet moment out of the sun!! Walking distance, like most places in Castine, from Sea Breeze. There is also a spectacular view from here!

Essentials
The grocery store in Bucksport is the closest but if you happen to be over near Blue Hill for the day, I also recommend Trade Winds Marketplace or the Blue Hill Co-Op.

Trade winds was recently taken over by Hannafords and no longer has such a diverse local produce section. It is still, however, a nice store for all your essentials.

We met the owners of this business and they were wonderful! If you like the peace that kayaking provides then go and see them and explore Penobscot Bay!! Castine Kayaks also have bikes for rent for $20 a day! Visit their website! They also do guided kayaking tours and night time Phosphorescence tours!!
