Justine's Brasserie serves up some of the best food in Austin. Specializing the French cuisine, Justine's is located in a very stylish small house in East Austin. No reservations are accepted, so be prepared to wait for a table at this popular spot. When you get a seat, make sure to start your meal with the escargot, one of the most popular dishes here. Hip scene. Vinyl played. Get a drink in the courtyard. It's worth the wait!

TORCHYS. This place has gone to the moon and back with some off-the-grid taco combinations. The Brushfire is jerk chicken, mangoes, jalapenos, sour cream and cilantro. The Independent is deep-fried battered portobello mushroom strips, roasted corn, pickled carrots, refried black beans, and avocados with an insane chili aioli sauce that I would order shots of if they offered it. I like Torchy’s because there’s a ton of vegetarian tacos that are so flavorful, even meat-eaters would love. While you’re stuffing your face with a few different varieties of tacos, don’t forget to save room for the elote. There’s probably 10 or 11 locations in Austin alone.

Best "upscale" burgers in town. Texas company, focusing on locally sourced ingredients. They have chicken, turkey, tuna and veggie options for those not seeking red meat. Fantastic burgers, a top notch bar with great cocktails and good local beer. Don't be afraid of the line. You can order your drinks in line while you wait to order.

Seriously, it's the best. Anthony Bourdain says so. President Obama says so. Texas Monthly says so. And I say so. Is it worth the wait? Only if you love BBQ and recognize love requires sacrifice. Get there before 9am ... 8:30 if you want to wait in the shade before the doors open at 11:00. Bring some folding chairs and some cards, or a newspaper, and some coffee. Treat it like a chill tailgate and talk to your neighbors. You will have a blast. It's worth it. If you just cannot stand to wait the full four hours, try La Barbecue, John Mueller Meat Company or Mickelthwaits. It's all good!

Zilker Park is known as the crown jewel of the Austin parks system. It is named for Andrew Jackson Zilker. Mr. Zilker came to Austin in 1876 to become a business man and a banker. He operated one of Austin’s first ice factories and was elected an Alderman. He also ranched a 40 acre spread with good water southwest of town. In three separate gifts in 1918, 1923, and 1931, Mr. Zilker gave his ranch, which included what is now known as Barton Springs, to the city in a way that benefitted the community and the schools. Zilker made a final gift to the city in 1934, the site of what is now the Girl Scout Clubhouse. That same year the park was officially named Zilker Park.

Within Zilker Park's 358 acres lies one of the crown jewels of Austin - Barton Springs Pool. The pool itself measures three acres in size, and is fed from underground springs with an average temperature of 68-70 degrees, ideal for year-round swimming. Over the years, Barton Springs Pool has drawn people from all walks of life, from legislators who have concocted state laws there to free-spirited, topless sunbathers who turned heads in the 1970s.

Arts & Culture

Beyond Van Gogh Austin Beyond Van Gogh uses cutting-edge projection technology to create an engaging journey into the world of Van Gogh. Using his dreams, his thoughts, and his words to drive the experience as a narrative, we move along projection swathed walls wrapped in light, colour, and shapes that swirl, dance and refocus into flowers, cafes and landscapes. Masterpieces, now freed from frames, come alive, appear and disappear, flow across multi-surfaces, the minutia of details titillating our heightened senses. Through his own words set to a symphonic score, we may come to a new appreciation of this tortured artist’s stunning work.
