Hike the Craggy Gardens Trail, climbing through a beautiful high-elevation forest filled with blooming rhododendron, wild blueberries and wildflowers to stunning summit views just off the Blue Ridge Parkway. 1.9 miles round trip

Head North on the Blue Ridge Parkway 30 minutes. This VIsitor Center has a bathroom down behind and a ranger on site plus small gift shop. You can take an easy hike from here to the Picnic area-turnout slightly before the Visitor Center (or vice versa). But my favorite hike here is to the Pinnacle (go thru tunnel just past Visitor Center and parking on left - up to top then back. Views are 360.

This high altitude portion of the parkway is great for hikes year round. It gets especially busy in June when people go to see the beautiful display of rhodendrons. If you take the Craggy Pinnacle trail you'll be rewarded with 360 degree views of mtn slopes layered as far as you can see!

Bring a light jacket with you in the summer as it is pretty chilly that high up. The drive there is about 45 minutes on the Blue Ridge Parkway, but it’s worth the drive!

The Craggy Pinnacle hike is short and excellent for catching sunsets! About 30 minute drive from Asheville. Get detailed directions to this hike at www.romanticasheville.com NOTE * Can be inaccessible in winter if Parkway is closed up high for ice in tunnels
