Learn the art of bonsai in a hands-on workshop

Discover the art of bonsai with me, the owner of Shinajina in Tokyo’s Jiyugaoka neighborhood. I’ll share secrets and techniques around bonsai that will inspire you to continue practicing even after you leave. • Begin by choosing from seasonal plants like cherry blossoms, evergreens, or foliage bonsai, each reflecting nature’s beauty. You’ll also select your pot, and hear an introduction to the art of bonsai and its cultural significance. • Learn the importance of soil in bonsai cultivation and consider concepts of natural balance as you clean the plant, position it, and then plant it into the soil. • Enhance your bonsai with moss, stones, decorative sand, driftwood, or aged wood to bring your miniature landscape to life before considering a different base and taking photographs of the finished result. Because bonsai cannot be taken outside of Japan, we’ll give you a very special round bonsai pot and scissors that were crafted in the Tsubame-Sanjo. This will allow you to continue your bonsai journey even after you return home.

Sweet Japan: Make Mochi & Dorayaki, Enjoy with Matcha making

At my cozy kitchen, you’ll learn how to make traditional and delicious Japanese confectionery (wagashi), including namagashi (fresh sweets) and yakigashi (baked treats), along with preparing matcha tea. • Make four types of wagashi with my step-by-step guidance: tricolor dango (three-colored sweet rice dumplings), fresh fruit daifuku (fresh fruit wrapped in soft mochi rice cake), mochi ice cream (demonstration only), and dorayaki (sweet red bean pancake sandwiches). You’ll even emboss your dorayaki with a traditional hot stamp design! • Before we get hands-on, I’ll share insights into the cultural significance and techniques behind each Japanese treat. •At the end of the lesson, you’ll have the chance to experience a short tea ceremony, where you’ll learn how to prepare matcha by whisking it yourself and enjoy it alongside the sweets you made. If you prefer, you can also choose green tea or hojicha instead. You’ll leave with a satisfied sweet tooth and new skills inspired by Japan’s rich wagashi tradition.

Final Finishing (1 hour) -The sandals are adjusted and polished to create a finished product. The host will help you with the fine details to create a professional finish. 5. Closing (10 min.) -You will receive the finished shoes or sandals, a certificate, and photos and videos of the process. -You will receive a free gift of leather wax. Let's try surfing with me! Even if you've never tried, you can stand on the surfboard during the lesson! There are 5-Steps in the beginners' lesson. 1- Practice how to catch waves before getting in the sea. 2- Wait the wave you catch on the sea. 3- Start paddling with the crying out "GO! PADDLE!" 4- And Stand on the board calmly. 5- Now you will be a surfer!! After that you can take hot shower in our surf shop and ready to eat lunch (dinner) or maybe grab a beer :) Other things to note This surf lesson takes about 2.5 hours. About 30 min for ready to surf and about 30 min for taking shower and changing clothes after surf. We can surf for about 1.5 hours. Note: If you arrive 20 minutes later than the meeting time, you may not be able to join the lesson.

You can learn how to make roll sushi bento and get in touch with traditional Japanese home style cooking culture. There are many kinds of bento in Japan. In this experience, you can make your roll sushi and fix it in a bento box. Making sushi rolls is fun, as well as packing them in a bento box. This class is held in a private home in Kamakura, a popular tourist destination. After the experience, I recommended that you bring your bento and go sightseeing. ・You can learn how to make home-style Japanese side dishes. ・You can roll sushi by yourself with fillings you like. ・You can make a chopstick holder with origami. ・After packing your sushi in the bento box, you can bring it to Kamakura walk and lunch outside. ・After making bento, we can go to the supermarket to discover what Japanese eat and to buy ingredients for bento-making. ・Vegan bento without meat, fish, and egg is available. (Please let me know in advance if you prefer vegan bento.) ・Solo traveler and couples are welcome. 【Note】 We don't use raw fish. Please enjoy your bento within 2 hours (in the summertime, within 1 hour preferably) after the lesson. Reservation required 2 days in advance.
