The Boat House is a unique space which sleeps 2 in one bedroom/sitting room. Fully centrally heated and completely renovated last year, the property has a wonderfully sunny patio where you can relax after a busy day exploring the area. The accommodation comprises of one large room upstairs which has a Feather and Black bed which can be split into twin beds or made into one large double bed. This room also has two armchairs and a TV with a large inbuilt desk set under a window which looks out towards the Broad and the moored boats. This is a wonderful space for the budding writer or for enjoying breakfast. The original staircase (fairly steep) leads down to the kitchenette (please note, no oven) and wetroom. The wetroom has underfloor heating. There is a pub and a cafe in the village, both 5 minute's walk away which serve lunch and evening meals (only the pub serves the latter). There is also 'The Ship Inn' in South Walsham which serves meals and is just over a mile away. The apartment is dog friendly, we accept one well behaved dog. HOT TUB RENTAL £75 per short break. The tub is filled and heated for your arrival and comes with a chilled bottle of prosecco! Homemade cake, fizz and balloons for special occasions £30
Ranworth is a beautiful village in the heart of the Norfolk Broads. There is a nature reserve in the village which has a thatched visitor centre on stilts at the end of a boardwalk which overlooks Ranworth Broad. From here you can take wildlife trips on the Norfolk Wildlife Trust boat. There is a huge array of birds and wildlife to observe and listen to here. The rare swallowtail butterfly can often be seen in the garden. Ranworth church which you can see from the property is known as the 'Cathedral of the Broads'. Climb up to the top of the tower and enjoy wonderful views of the village and views all the way across to the coast. The church is known for it's beautiful rood screen and antiphoner and is well worth a visit. There is also a cafe here. A few minutes walk from the accommodation is the staithe which is host to the many boats which visit the village. Here you will find a pub, shop (closed from November until March) and cafe. It's a great spot to have a meal or a drink and watch the world go by. There are walks in the area and you may also like to visit the nearby Fairhaven Woodland and Water Gardens, which comprises of 53 hectares (131 acres) of beautiful ancient woodland, water gardens and a private broad at South Walsham. Amongst the many things that make living here special, are waking up to the sunshine with the mist hanging over the broad (with the boom of the bittern in the distance if you are lucky!), listening to the owls hooting late at night and drifting along the river on a boat. There is so much to see and do here not only in the village but also in the rest of the Broads. We are also close to many beaches. Winterton beach is a favourite both with locals and our guests. There is cafe right on the beach and a cosy pub in the village of Winterton. Norwich is only half an hour away with it's wonderful shops and museums. Wroxham is 15 minutes away where you can hire a boat to explore the waterways and there are fishing jetties on the River Bure, about 10 minutes drive away. Imagine Spa in Blofield Heath has a range of relaxing treatments available too, again only 10 minutes away!

Other attractions close by and within easy walking/cycling distance include historic St Bennets Abbey, How Hill Gardens and Nature Trail and only a short car journey away Wroxham Barns Craft Centre and the beautiful sandy beaches of the Norfolk coast.

Total empfohlen.

Comfortable double room with kitchenette facilities and exclusive use of adjacent wet room. Set within walking distance of the High Street with a Tesco store, pubs, chemist and a variety of small shops and cafes. Ideal base for exploring the Norfolk Broads (we are walking distance from Stalham Staithe). You are spoilt for choice with our nearby gorgeous sandy beaches only a few miles away such as Sea Palling or Horsey, famous for the seals. The fine city of Norwich is about 15 miles away.
The room is quite separate from the rest of our accommodation, whilst being within our house, with sole use of adjacent wet room. Fridge freezer, microwave, toaster and kettle. Light breakfast provided including cereals, toast and selection of spreads, orange juice, tea and coffee. Tv/dvd, radio, heated towel rail. There is an additional oil filled radiator and blankets in the room for chilly nights.

Plenty of little high street shops and charity shops as well as pubs and cafes. There are a wealth of gorgeous beaches nearby which are well worth a visit, whatever the weather.

    Jacqueline2018-10-01T00:00:00Z

The Water Cabin is a recently renovated 1930’s cedar-clad cabin located on the bank of the River Thurne, in the heart of the Broads National Park. It is the ideal retreat for a romantic getaway or family holiday at any time of the year.
The Water Cabin has two bedrooms (sleeps four) and open plan living room, kitchen and dining room. The bathroom has a large walk-in shower and bath. Outside, there is a large decked area, a generous sized garden and an adjacent boat dyke with river frontage and moorings. The cabin has river views to the front and countryside views to the rear.
The Water Cabin is situated in a friendly community of riverside properties on the bank of the River Thurne in Repps with Bastwick. Neighbours will be a mix of residents and fellow holidaymakers. The Broads National Park is made up of manmade rivers that are medieval and home to quarter of UK’s rarest wildlife. There are more than 200km of navigable lock free rivers and open water. In the Broads you will see the swallowtail butterfly, the Norfolk hawker dragonfly, the marsh harrier, the bittern and the crane. One of the best places to visit to spot all five is Hickling Nature Reserve. The Broads National Park is home to a quarter of the UK’s rarest wildlife. There is nowhere else in Britain where you go for a walk and see a swallowtail butterfly sunning itself upon a flag iris. Nowhere else, where on the same footpath, you’ll see a flock of cranes cross the sky like oriental wallpaper. By the time you’ve put down your binoculars you’ll have already noticed the hares boxing in the meadow beyond and the Chinese water deer breaking cover from the willow trees. The air is filled with the hum of dragonflies, some as large as your fist. Was that the sound of a cuckoo? The water is flat and clear as a mirror and upon it a grebe glides as though in state, before disappearing beneath the water’s surface. Beneath the shade of the sails of a heritage mill seems the perfect place to stop, to listen to the song of the swifts and the sway of the reeds. Because the Broads National Park is home to a quarter of the UK’s rarest wildlife and there is nowhere else in the country where you can see all of these creatures in one place, except here.

Alex

Bakers Cottage is a delight. It offers the chance to stay in a comfortable, beautifully furnished, well equipped and recently decorated traditional Norfolk thatched cottage with exposed timber beams, in the centre of the quintessentially English village of Ludham nestling in the heart of the Broads National Park.
We suggest that on arrival our guests take full advantage of the comprehensive Welcome to Bakers Cottage Ludham information folder which not only provides a list of handy phone numbers such as local boat and cycle hire and full details about the cottage including health and safety and how to work the heating, but also information about local activities and places to visit during your stay. Miss it and you might miss out! GUESTS! Please ask if you'd like us to get any of the following 'tide-me-over' consumables ready for your arrival, to save you having to do any shopping at the very beginning of your stay: milk, bread, butter, eggs, breakfast cereal, that kind of thing. You can pay us back at the end of your stay. Built in the 1700s, and nestling in the heart of the Norfolk Broads, Bakers Cottage is less than ten miles from the coast and is an ideal base for walking, boating, cycling, birdwatching, fishing and of course relaxing! Small but perfectly formed, the cottage boasts original features such as beams made from local driftwood (apparently salvaged from Great Yarmouth beach), and a quaint cast iron fireplace which, due to the thatched roof, is no longer in use but still makes an attractive focal point in the living room. You enter directly into an attractive lounge-diner with a terracotta tiled floor and rug, a 42" screen TV with freeview, a super comfy leather sofa, original art on the walls, a good selection of books, maps and games and a drop leaf dining table and chairs for two. Through the lounge-diner is a fully equipped kitchen with all the usual crockery, cutlery and pans, microwave, cooker and automatic washing machine, leading to the backdoor and garden beyond and the staircase up to the double bedroom and en suite shower room. The bedroom floor is wood and has a rug, a wide picture window that looks out onto the village green and the village sign, original art on the walls, tie-back curtains and a black-out roller blind, a comfortable double bed, a bedside cupboard, a dressing table with mirror and stool, a full length mirror, a wall hook and hanger, an antique nursing bedroom chair and a DAB clock radio. The en suite contains two mirrors, wash basin, electric shower, heated towel rail and of course the toilet. Facilities in cottage include: A hairdryer and set of straighteners, a pair of hot water bottles, a torch and a spare set of batteries (there are no street lights in Ludham), a table and chairs for two with a cloth and table mats, plenty of coat hooks, two umbrellas, sewing kits available in the cupboard under the sink, a fully equipped kitchen including all the essentials plus plunger-style cafetiere, de-caf and normal Kenco instant coffee, Yorkshire Tea tea bags, salt and black pepper grinders (filled), sugar, Candarel-style sugar substitute, vinegar, a supply of tea towels, original J-cloths, washing up sponges, washing up liquid and gloves, laundry tabs and fabric softener, kitchen paper, IKEA paper napkins, soft fluffy towels (two bath and two hand towels per guest), face flannels, facial tissues, hand wash, a nail brush, a complementary shower scrunchy, Dove shower cream, shampoo, toilet paper, bleach and Dettol all-in-one disinfectant and room spray, iron and table-top ironing board, concertina-style clothes airer, a bistro table and set of two chairs with removable cushions in the decked fully private south-facing garden.
The village of Ludham stands in an area of Norfolk known as The Norfolk Broads. It is surrounded on three sides by the rivers Ant, Bure and Thurne and it has its own small broad, Womack Water. Windmills and wind pumps are abundant! The village staithe is a great spot to start a tour of Ludham. You could have a picnic here or just relax and watch the boats moor up. There are moorings for private boats and several public 24-hour moorings (stern on). At the staithe you will also find a boatyard and small gift shop. Moving on into the village itself, there is the 14th century church of Saint Catherine. Inside is a generous amount of woodwork especially in the roof, an interesting font near the doorway and a magnificent tapestry of the parish of Ludham. It also has a fine clock tower. Outside again and situated on the far side of the dramatic 'S' bend in the main road, you will find what must surely be one of the prettiest cafes in Norfolk - the Alfresco Tea Rooms. Meanwhile, on the near side of the 'S' bend is the village pub, The Kings Arms... ALFRESCO TEA ROOMS, Ludham: A two minute walk from Bakers Cottage and open from April to October 10am to 5pm seven days a week, Alfresco is a traditional tea rooms located in a Grade 2 listed cottage on Norwich Road opposite Saint Catherine’s Church. Recently re-thatched, a delightful café offering teas, coffees and light lunches served on fine china and table cloths. Homemade cakes, scones and soups produced daily using locally sourced produce and sandwiches made with freshly baked bread and quality fillings. Regular specials on the boards and fully licensed. Special dietary requirements catered for but you are advised to call ahead... THE KINGS ARMS, Ludham: A family and carvery pub, the Kings Arms is just a very short walk away from Bakers Cottage and if you want to partake in an alcoholic beverage or two, is clearly your best option! The restaurant serves good food all year round whilst food and bar snacks are available in the main bar area (where you will find Sky TV screens showing top sporting events), plus there is a large patio and beer garden for those who prefer to sit outside. There is a carvery on Wednesday evenings and all day Sundays and full English breakfasts are served from 8.30am but only on certain days, so check the website or ask at the pub for up-to-date details... There are miles and miles of beautiful sandy coastline within easy reach. Nearest beaches being Eccles-on-Sea (our favourite) and Sea Palling - both just over 9 miles away. Plus there are lots of great walks on Ludham's extensive network of footpaths, including to St Benet's Abbey, How Hill and Horsefen Marshes. So whether you're into fresh air, walking, beach combing, cycling, boating, fishing, wildlife or bird watching - or perhaps you just want to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life for a bit of peace and quiet, it's all available in spades. What's not to like! And remember, much of eastern England receives less than 700 mm of rain per year and includes some of the driest areas in the country... NORFOLK WHERRY TRUST: Norfolk sailing wherry the Albion is available for day and weekend (or longer) charters from May till the end of September and can carry a total of twelve passengers. A qualified and experienced skipper and mate sail the boat, but passengers are encouraged to participate as assistants to the crew. However, if you just want to sit on the deck and watch the Broads go by, that's fine. You will see lots of wildlife and being on Albion, an icon of the Broads, you will find yourself being constantly photographed and waved to. Most, but not all charters start and end at the Ludham base. To check availability or make a booking, enquire with the charter secretary Pam Shallcross on 01692 630593. HUNTER'S YARD: Hunter’s Yard is situated in its own dyke off Womack Water in Ludham. The 'Hunter Experience' is a two-hour sail with an experienced skipper and is your chance to ‘have a go’ for two hours in the safe hands of an experienced skipper on the Norfolk Broads. Also on offer at Hunter's Yard are six traditional wooden half-deckers for hire to the public. Three are Gunter rigs and three are balanced lugsails. All of these vintage vessels are great day boats and come with awnings making them perfect for yamping... However, if you're a good dinghy sailor and enjoy having a mainsail and a jib, then a Gunter Rig may be just the boat for you. Experienced sailors who like life a little faster, would certainly enjoy the exhilarating sail you can get with Rebel Reveller and Valiant Rebel. They are the only two Rebel Class half-deckers available for hire on the Norfolk Broads. The Yard's single sail balanced lugs are ideal for solo sailors or people looking for a more sedate sail, who may wish to practice their sailing skills... To check availability or make a booking, call Hunter's Yard on 01692 678263.

Luxury Scandinavian inspired cabin for two with all mod cons a stone's throw from Wroxham, the capital of The Norfolk Broads. Facilities include: King size bed, luxury bed linen, blankets & hot water bottles for chillier evenings, towels, wood burner effect stove, fridge with freezer compartment, 2 ring hob, kettle, toaster, Nespresso machine, all crockery & glassware, B&O speaker, hairdryer, board games, plenty of books, private patio area with coal BBQ & outdoor furniture.
A hot water shower, eco-composting loo and sink are located 15metres away from the cabin along a well-maintained path (that is lit with solar-powered lights in case you need to visit during the night). Please note, the cabin itself doesn't have a hot water connection - only cold, fresh drinking water but there is a kettle should you need hot water. To enable you to well and truly switch off and escape some of the stresses of modern-day life, the cabin is not connected to Wifi. But for those among you who can't live without your daily internet fix, the entire garden is well served by 4G. The only exception is EE, as their signal strength can be a bit patchier.   You are welcome to use the entire two and a half acre garden and all of its facilities during your stay. These include an orchard, flower garden, vegetable garden, wooded area, croquet lawn, boules pitch, swing & slide set, children's playhouse, sandpit and a badminton & volleyball net. The cabin comes supplied with tea, coffee pods, sugar, olive oil and salt & pepper. I am happy to pre-stock your fridge with locally produced goodies including bread, cheese, ham, eggs, sausages, jams and chutneys. If you are interested in this service, please let me know and I will send you prices. I can also provide breakfast, but this is also at an additional charge - please note that I do request at least 24 hours notice for this service. Free, secure parking is available about 100m from the cabin. We will provide wheelbarrows so you can easily transport your luggage to your accommodation. The property is entered through an electric gate - we will give you the access code as part of your welcome briefing so you are able to come and go as you please. Although the cabin was designed specifically for couples wanting to get away from it all, we are very happy to accommodate small children. We can provide travel cots, changing mats and a high chair free of charge. We have a sandpit and Wendy House they are welcome to use too. Please note that we have a cat and a dog. The dog is a large Deerhound / Lurcher. She is very friendly but we do appreciate that she can be a bit scary looking at first impressions. We are happy for guests to bring ONE well-behaved dog with them (at an extra charge of £5 per night), but we do ask for a £100 cash deposit that will be returned at check out in case of dog-related damages. Our garden is very peaceful, but as we are positioned alongside a fairly main road, there is some road noise (the cabin is located at the furthest away point from the road with farmer's fields behind). Compared to London it pales into insignificance, but if you are looking for total and utter silence, you may want to consider looking elsewhere.
Wroxham / Hoveton is a bustling village over the summer months as lots of people use it as their base when exploring the Broads. It has everything you need including a large supermarket, a small department store (the famous Roys), hairdressers, florist, wine bar and deli, restaurants, pubs and cafes. The surrounding villages of Horning and Coltishall are also home to several great pubs and restaurants so you definitely won't run out of places to eat during your stay. We are happy to give you more specific recommendations when you arrive.

Danke Derek!

Horning is the nearest location for boat hire on the River Bure and Wayford Bridge or Stalham are the nearest for boat hire on the River Ant. The Yare and Thurne rivers are also nearby and each river has different characteristics and attractions, so it's worth exploring. There are many boat hire companies and prices are very seasonal. All companies will hire out life jackets and abide by strict safety protocols, so don't be afraid to google and find one that suits exactly what you are after. You can also explore the river by sailing boat, canoe or Paddle Board. Canoes and Paddle Boards have access to otherwise non-navigable stretches of river so if you're looking to spot more nature they are an ideal choice, although even in a motor boat you can see a host of wildlife including otters and kingfishers. Family Activities: Bewilderwood is a wonderful adventure park that is just two miles away. It emphasizes the natural environment and has a number of treehouses, slides, sky walks and other activities suitable for all ages. The Bure Valley Railway is a miniture railway that runs from Wroxham (4 miles away), through various villages, to Aylsham which is a traditional market town that is also home to Blickling Hall. Aylsham and Blickling Hall are well worth exploring, and for the adventurous, there is a footpath/cyclepath that runs alongside the railway so you can walk or bicycle all, or parts of, the way home too. Even smaller than the Bure Valley Railway is the model Railway collection also in Wroxham, at Miniature Worlds. Wroxham Barns has a host of activities, including a miniture farm, mini golf, cafes, shops and a host of arts and crafts. In the spring there is the option to feed the lambs and other youngstock as well as learn about many different farm animals. Slightly further afield there are beaches, zoos, museums and a host of options in Norwich which can all be reached within about half an hour. Arts, Architecture and Historical: Locally, St Benet's Abbey celebrated it's one thousandth birthday in 2019 and Norwich, also in 2019, won the prestigious Stirling prize for Architecture for a newly designed social housing scheme; there really is something for everyone! In fact, Norfolk has a history of human habitation going back an astonishing 850,000 years, with the oldest human footprints outside Africa having been discovered about 10 miles away on the beach at Happisburgh! Also local is the Museum of the Broads, where you can find out about what makes this part of the UK so unique and explore more about the history of people and wildlife in broadland. The Norfolk Museums website gives a good overview of many of the other local museums, many of them Norwich based. The Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts is a leading art gallery with a couple of permanent exhibitions as well as visiting exhibitions of extremely high calibre. Norwich Castle also frequently has art exhibitions as well as its fascinating museum, details of which can be found in the museums link above. Norfolk also has a wealth of National Trust and other stately homes to explore as well of course as Sandringham House, home to the Royal Family and locally you can explore Hoveton Hall Gardens and East Ruston Gardens. Norfolk is perhaps most famous for its churches and Cathedral. Whatever your religious beliefs you can't help but appreciate the unique architecture of these great buildings. Music, Theatre and Film: The parish newsletters will give the best details of local events but Norwich has a greater choice of venues. Norwich has five theatres and several cinemas - we highly recommend Cinema City and there are many music venues, depending on your preferred genre but some favourite locations are listed here. Food and Drink: Almost as famous as Norfolk churches are Norfolk pubs! In fact it is said that Norwich used to have 52 churches, one for every Sunday in the year and 365 pubs. It is true, Norfolk has a wealth of ancient pubs full of wood fires (can you tell I'm writing this in bad weather? There are also some great pub gardens....!) and delicious food. Norfolk has also seen a real rise in independent tea and coffee merchants meaning you can almost always find a delicious spot for a cuppa. There really are too many to choose from - but some of our favourites within a three mile radius of Thatch Cottage are: The White Horse in Neatishead - a lovely traditional pub with its own microbrewery and even their own gin. The Staithe n Willow and Bure River Cottage - both in Horning and the (seasonal) Garden cafe at Hoveton Hall. A little further away in the village of Ingham is the Ingham Swan, serving delicious, higher end, meals. There are numerous great spots for food and drink, really too many to list, but there are some further ideas in the app that is sent once you book.

Sorrel may be tucked away but you and your dog will have plenty to do if you can tear yourselves away from this comfortable cottage.. Ground floor: Living/dining room/kitchen area. Bathroom with shower over bath and toilet. First floor: 2 bedrooms: 1 double with en-suite shower room and toilet, 1 twin with en-suite toilet.. Dishwasher.. Tucked away down a country lane in the heart of Broadland, and enjoying glorious views across open fields, a range of handsome barns has been tastefully converted to create the attractive cluster of cottages we offer here. Some nestle under their traditional Norfolk thatch, all are very comfortably appointed and each enjoys its own individual patio. From the cottages, a gentle and tranquil rural landscape dotted with ancient churches, wind pumps and nature reserves, among a myriad other delights all under vast, arching East Anglian skies, offers a wealth of opportunity for enjoying walking, cycling and bird watching. Nearby How Hill nature reserve, with its marsh meadows, dykes, woodland and open water, is well worth exploring and the wider surrounding area supports a host of attractions. Riverside pubs and cafés are plentiful and a number of Broadland centres offer bike hire or canoe hire (possibly the most delightful way to discover the lovely reed lined waterways and their abundant wildlife) and visitors can also hire boats at nearby Potter Heigham (4 miles), or take a pleasure cruise from bustling Wroxham – the capital of the Broads and home to the ‘world’s largest village store’ as well as the train station for the Bure Valley narrow gauge steam railway. Close by, BeWILDerwood, a magical tree top park, promises children a day to remember, and lovely dune backed sandy beaches are a short drive – Sea Palling lies just 6 miles away. For lively family fun, visitors need look no further than Great Yarmouth and its famous pleasure beach, or Pleasurewood Hills theme park, whilst Cromer also offers traditional seaside entertainments including a renowned end of pier show. Bygone museums, craft centres and Blickling Hall (NT) are all within an easy drive, as is the medieval city of Norwich with its magnificent cathedral, castle, galleries, museums, cinemas, theatres and excellent shopping. A little further afield on the north Norfolk coast, seal watching boat trips can be found at picturesque fishing villages, many of which also boast pubs and restaurants serving superb, locally caught seafood. Coarse fishing is available on local waters just 400 yards away, and the pretty village of Ludham (1 mile) boasts two pubs and a good range of shops.. All properties: Gas central heating, electricity, bed linen and towels included. DVD. Stereo/CD. Microwave. Washing machine. Fridge/freezer. Wi-fi. Patio and furniture. Parking. Fishing (100 yards). Cycle hire available by arrangement (at cost). No smoking.

Delightful and stylish barn conversion in a traditional Broadland village, just 200 yards from the shop/post office and local pub. Perfectly located for enjoying the local sandy beaches, nature reserves, seal ( we are volunteer wardens at Horsey) and bird watching ( several RSPB reserves nearby), photography and painting ( we do both), cycling and walking.
This classic barn conversion is set in a charming old Norfolk village and is built of traditional flint and brick materials with a pan-tile roof. Tastefully converted to an East Anglian architect's design, it provides a comfortable , relaxing and quiet setting in which to relax in the country. Dogs are particularly welcome and there are a full range of local walks ( despite us being in Catfield). Our new resident Sprocker, Jonah, is bouncy but gentle and used to children.
Catfield is a friendly Norfolk village near to several market towns and within easy reach of the North Sea beaches where we 'warden' an increasing population of grey seals who haul out on our beaches to have their pups ( over 700 this years). This National Park status area of the Norfolk Broads has lots of nature sites ( SSSIs , bird and butterfly reserves etc.,), walks for dogs and hikers and lots of water to sail, launch, canoe etc. on. It is also great for bicycling and we have several hire companies within easy reach or who deliver a bike right to your door ( pre-booking essential).Boat hire is also available locally. As a thriving tourist area, we also have lots of friendly public houses with meals, real ales and excellent hosts. (Many are dog-friendly!) Museums, country parks, activity centres and heaps of fun places to visit make this a very precious are for us... and for YOU to visit!

Barton Turf is a lovely, small, unspoilt broadland village. It has its own staithe and boatyard giving direct access to Barton Broad a National Nature Reserve. The village itself has many pretty cottages and there is a village green with pond. The village is very quiet and peaceful. The church is about a mile out of the village and well worth a walk on a fine day. The closest shop and pub The White Horse are in Neatishead, about 20 mins walk. Barton staithe, which is a peaceful place to moor your boat. All kinds of boats call in at the staithe, including wherries, yachts and cruisers, and its a great place to enjoy a picnic or a quiet evening fishing. There is only room for a handful of boats, but there is plenty of public mooring at Paddy's Lane (further up the dyke leading to Barton Turf staithe). The building on the staithe was once used to store cargo to be transported by wherry, it is now owned by the parish and used for meetings and events. Adjacent to the staithe is Cox's boatyard and marina, providing moorings and associated services for private boats. Moving up into the village centre, you will find many pretty cottages dating from different periods. One interesting row is Coronation Cottages, which were built during the Queen's coronation year of 1953. The architect decided to shape the roof-line of the row of 4 cottages into the outline of a crown. The cottages were once owned by Barton Hall, but have since been sold off. In the centre of the village is the village green, pond and village sign. The sign was made of wrought iron in 1953 and shows a Norfolk Wherry. The Norfolk Broads is the UK's largest and finest wetland landscape. This unique patchwork of rivers and lakes is result of intensive digging of peat in the Middle Ages to provide fuel. The empty pits were soon filled by rising water levels and now form a network of over 125 miles of navigable waterways providing leisure interest for many. The Norfolk Broads landscape is one of beauty and peace, of water, marsh, woodland and wide skies - with views of church towers and windmills. There is abundant wildlife including many rare butterflies and dragonflies. Some of the nature reserves can only be visited by boat and a tour by road. Visit Broadland and you can enjoy many activities including Norfolk Broads boating holidays, sailing, canoeing, kayaking, windsurfing, walking, fishing and cycling. The RAF Air Defence Radar Museum offers a fascinating insight into the aviation history of the village and visitors will learn a great deal about the region and the workings of the RAF over the years.
